存世的几枚太平天国早期大花钱，铸工精整，文字挺拔有力，龙凤等纹饰纤细隽秀，有专家认为大花钱是太平军攻克苏州后，谕令苏州钱局精工制造。但此类大花钱从世存量看，目前在湖南省境内见数量比例为大，且此类特大型花线又系鎏金工艺的也仅有湖南省博物馆珍藏的这一枚，同时是在株洲的废铜仓库中发现的，所以有的专家推测，太平天国的铸钱局可能在湖南境内。究竟在何地，目前尚未找到确切依据，故待考，暂无定论。再者，从已经发现和公布的太平天国花钱来看，目前还尚未发现有两块以上材质相同，大小规格和完全同模的，全部都是独版独模的。说明当时就不是批量铸造，而是限量版的。

太平天国背“圣宝”花钱鉴赏：
这枚“太平天国圣宝”大花钱，钱面“太平天国”四字，对读，是国号也是年号。我国古钱币中，国号、年号并在一起的有“大夏真兴”“大辽天庆”“大元至治”，但国号和年号合二为一的钱文，则只有“太平天国”钱币。此枚“太平天国”花钱上的图纹，正面四周是“二龙抢珠”，背面四周是“八宝”图案。“二龙抢珠”图案，也有称它为“双龙捧日”的。双龙尾间图纹，称“寿山福海”，但亦有称为“海水朝天圭”的，都是寓意吉瑞。This "taiping heavenly kingdomholy treasure" big money, money "taiping heavenly kingdom" fourwords, read, is the title is also the year. 钱背面四周称“八宝”纹，也有称“八吉祥”的，是指宝盖、法轮、金鱼、宝伞、妙莲、宝瓶、盘肠、法螺八件吉祥之物的统称，穿右穿左各铸一凤，与正面组合成“双龙”;左右“圣宝”二字直读，宝字“缶”部微有粘连。太平天国建都后的初期铸钱，钱文都有“圣宝”二字。
