從平淡無奇到神采奕奕的寫作技巧
表達“很，非常”，不一定只有 very/extremely ：
all+抽象名詞=very+形容詞
- He is very very very gentle and soft to her.他對她很溫柔。
- He is all gentleness to her.他對她很溫柔。
抽象名詞+itself=very+形容詞
- He is very/extremely modest towards his elders.對待長輩，他極度謙虛。
- To his superiors, he is humility itself.對待長輩，他極度謙虛。
注意：這原是表示某種性質到了極點的一種說法，有“非常，只管，一味，盡”之意，有時甚至可以譯為“...的化身”，“...的具體化”。
表示程度時，特別是表達“略有，少許，全無，毫無”意思時，用something of，nothing of, much of, little of
- He is something of a philosopher.他略有哲學家的風範。
- She is nothing of a musician.他全然不像個音樂家。
- He is very much of a poet.他很有詩人氣派。
- She is little of a scholar.她無學者風度。
注意：something of與something like有比較大的不同點。something like表示數量或性質上略同，如It shaped something like a cigar.(指形狀略似雪茄。)
翻譯時的問題：
如，He has seen something of life.不宜翻譯為“他看過了一些人生。”換做“他略具閱歷。”更好。
又如，He is something of a scholar.“他宛如學者。”不如“他略具學識。”
寫比喻句，用“名詞+of+a+名詞
- It was a great mountain of a wave.那是一個像山一樣高的大浪。
- That fool of a Tom did it.這是湯姆那個笨蛋做的。
- She was an angel of a wife.她是天仙一般的妻子。
- He was a fine figure of a young man.他是一個風度翩翩的公子。
- The child is a treasure of a son.那是一個寶貝兒子。
- He lives in a palace of a house.他住在一座宮殿似的大屋子。
表達“像...那樣的”，用“名詞+of+sb's +名詞’”
- It was beyond expectation for a man of your taste.遇到一位像你這樣有品味的人，真是出乎意料。
- He is a man of your experience.他是一個像你一樣經驗豐富的人。
- You are a lady of her wisdom.你是一個像她那樣賢惠的淑女。
用名詞替代形容詞，用of+抽象名詞
- It was of great importance.(of importance=important)
- of no use=useless 無用
- a man of courage=a courageous man 勇敢的人
- a lady of virtue=a virtuous lady 賢德的女人
- a man of business 商人
- a man of few words 寡言的人
- a man of his word 言行一致
- a man of parts 多才多藝
強烈限定的時候，用“that+先行詞+關係代詞”
- He lost that picture which he had got with much trouble.他把費了很大勁才得來的畫丟了。
- The root is that part of vegetable which least impresses the eye.根是植物最不引人注目的部分。
- Those rich men are great who do not think themselves great because they are rich.並不以為他們有錢的人在算偉大。
one thing...another ;the one...the other
- Saying is one thing,doing another.說的是一回事，做的是另一回事。
- It is one thing to know and another to teach.知道是一回事，教是另一回事。
- They have two daughters;one is a singer,the other an actress.他們有兩個女兒，一個是歌手，另一個是演員。
- It is one thing to own a library;it is another to use it wisely.(藏書是一回事，能否善於利用又是另一回事。)
注意：another和the other後是不需要再寫一遍謂語。
