當我們在看牙醫時，如果醫生碰到了暴露在外的神經 “a raw nerve”，那麼我們會感到劇烈的疼痛。而表達 “to touch a (raw) nerve” 的意思則是 “因談到了敏感的話題而讓人感到難過”，也就是我們平常說的 “觸及到了某人的痛處”。
