I just want to make a quick comment: I just watched the War for the Planet of the Apes (which rocked) and in that, the leader of the monkeys Caesar has relocated their tribe to live in....behind a waterfall. On a mountain. I thought that was a nod to Journey to the West, although a subtle one.

Wether the Monkey King was stronger than Goku depends heavily on interpretation. By the end of the origanal Dragon Ball, Goku was stronger than any God on Earth, so he could be considered the equal to Sun Wukong in that sense at that point of the story, and obviously, he just got stronger after that.On the other hand, the ability for the Monkey King to jump to the very edges of the universe in a single leap seems to be the sort of thing beyond the extent's of even Current Goku's power.I think Wukong is probably the more powerful. Most people might also agree.

+KevkyHD That isn't always the rule. And I'd hardly call Goku a ripoff (homage would be closer).
And It's not like Goku's character didn't eventually Evolve many key distinctions to separate him from the Monkey King. They are definitely very different.goku is an inspiration of the monkey king,but he’s never a ripoff

Cool! Sun Wukong inspired Dragonball inspired Naruto(err, sunwukong can duplicate himself right? When he fought that second warrior sent by the heavens when he was sulking?) and One Piece (The mc's name... THE MC'S NAME!) I want to read this book... it makes me curious.
