JD.com Inc Inc. Chief Executive Officer Liu Qiangdong was arrested for alleged sexual misconduct during a business trip to the U.S. and local police are investigating the charges.

John Elder, a spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department, said they decided not to hold Liu in custody while conducting the investigation. He declined to provide details about the reasons for the arrest. Liu was brought in at 11:32 p.m. on Aug. 31 and released at 4:05 p.m. on Sept. 1, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s arrest records.
The company said Sunday in a statement on its Weibo social media account that U.S. police found no misconduct in their probe of allegations made against Liu. The company did not explain how that assertion squares with the police’s statement of an ongoing investigation.
