One、that和it這三個代詞使我們經常要使用的。一句話來概括就是one表示泛指，that和it 表示特指。that與所指名詞為同類，但不是同一個，而it 與所指名詞為同一個。下面我們來看一下它們具體的差別。
一、it代替前面的事物本身。
它可以代替可數名詞，也可以代替不可數名詞。代替可數名詞時，複數形式為they/ them.並且由於it沒有增加語義，所以不能帶有任何定語。例如以下例句：
I have lost my umbrella; I'm looking for it.
（該句中it就是指前面的my umbrella）
I can't find my hat. I don' t know where I put it. ( 同一物)
我找不到我的帽子。我不知道我把它放在哪了。
二、 one可以代替與前面同類不同一的事物；可以代替某類事物中的任何一個；可以做同位語，重複指代前面的事物，其後有定語從句用以進一步說明前面的名詞。並且：
one表泛指，相當於a/an+名詞。
one只能代替可數名詞，其複數形式是ones。
one可以根據語義在它的前面或後面加上一些定語。
one前面不能直接加不定冠詞（a / an）或物主代詞，one前已經有形容詞時，則可以加不定冠詞或物主代詞；one前加the與否，取決於是否特指，如果特指就加the。
one既可以代指物，也可以代指人。
我們還是結合幾個例句來學習一下one的用法：
I can't find my hat. I think I must buy one. (不定)
我找不到我的帽子了。我想我該去買一頂。
A chair made of steel is stronger than one made of wood.
（該句中one可以換成a chair）
The one ／That on the table is mine.
（該句中The one代替事物，並且也可以用That）
He is the teacher, the one who is loved by the students.
（該句中the one代替人，不能用that）
I like this pen more than that one.
（one代替可數名詞單數pen）
I have lost my umbrella; I think I must buy one.
（one在該句中表泛指，因為my umbrella已經丟了）
There were a few young people and some older ones in the house.
（ones代替可數名詞複數people）
三、 that代替與前面同類不同一的事物。that是特指，相當於the+名詞。
它可以代替可數名詞，也可以代替不可數名詞。代替可數名詞時，複數形式為those。that可以根據語義在它的後面加上一些定語，多數是of短語；它的前面不能存在任何定語。並且that只能代指物。例句如下：
The umbrella you bought is cheaper than that I bought.
（替代詞that在該句中特指“the umbrella I bought”，以區別“the umbrella you bought”）
The water in the cup is hotter than that in the pot.
（該句中that可以換成 the water）
Mary's handwriting is far better than that of Peter.
（that代替不可數名詞 handwriting）
These pictures are more beautiful than those.
（those代替可數名詞複數 pictures）
He advised the farmers to choose the best seed-heads, the ones ／those that had the best color.
（該句中the ones代替事物，並且也可以用those）
The hat you bought is bigger than that I bought. (同類但不同個)
你買的那頂帽子比我買的大。
