很多小夥伴都知道，英語中有很多帶顏色的短語，由於中西方文化背景的差異，我們並不能採取直譯。

01.green girl

“綠色的女孩”？顯然不能這樣理解，這裡green的意思是young and lacking experience，年輕、缺乏經驗。

“green girl”跟短語“green hand”表示的意思是一樣的，是“生手，沒有經驗的人，黃毛丫頭”意思。

例句：

Our office assistant is not only a green girl, but a troublemaker.

02.green tea bitch

這個短語可以按照字面意思翻譯，也就是我們所說的“綠茶婊”，釋義：

【譯】假裝清純，但實際很有心計，很會算計的女生。

03.green light

green 綠色，light光、輕的，但口語中的green light 可不能理解成“綠色的光”。

其實，它是“允許、許可 ”的意思，約等於我們口中的“給...開綠燈”。其釋義是：

permission for a project, etc. to start or continue

【譯】允許一個項目等開始或繼續

例句：

The government has decided to give the green light to the plan.

政府已決定許可這個計劃進行。

We'll never give the green light to gambling.

04.green-eyed

從字面意思看意思是“眼睛綠了”，其實不然，它恰恰是我們中國人常說的“眼紅”的意思，所以眼紅大家可千萬不要翻譯成“red-eyed”。這裡的綠色green在英語中可以表示“嫉妒、眼紅”的意思。

類似短語還有：green with envy，green as jealousy，green-eyed monster都是指“十分嫉妒”的意思。

05.a green old age

在“a green old age”裡，green是指青春時期。所以該短語的意思就是“老當益壯”。

green是綠色，paper是紙，那合起來的green paper是什麼意思呢？

07.Green thumb
