A movie festival for kids, the China International Children’s Film Festival will be launched in Guangzhou during November 14 -18.
Great Films From Home and Abroad
Some 146 films from nearly 30 countries and regions will be presented, including documentaries, animations and feature films, touching on topics like family ties, female growth, sports, and the environment.
Quite a few have been screened and even won awards at well-known international festivals such as the Berlin International Film Festival, Cinekid Festival of Netherlands, Giffoni Film Festival of Italy, and Busan Film Festival of South Korea.
The Iranian film, The End of Dreams, was the opening film at the 13th Busan Film Festival. The Chinese film, A First Farewell, won awards at film festivals in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Berlin. Both films will be screened during the festival in Guangzhou.
International Children’s Film Forum
Hou Keming, president of China Children's Film Association, said, "The wide participation of children will be the biggest highlight of the festival. Their roles range from jury members, film dubbers to participants of television and cultrual activities."
It is worth mentioning that the festival will also invite major content creators, senior educational specialists and other professionals in the film industry to probe into the development prospect of children’s films and to discuss how to make films in line with market demands while serving educational purposes. Experts from Israel, Germany, Finland, Spain, Japan and other countries will also address topics like market potential and the artistic value of children's films.
Public Screening
The films will be screened not just during the festival, but also at children's halls, schools, and cinemas in different Chinese communities throughout the year. About 80 will be presented at children’s halls and schools in Guangzhou and 150 will be available in cinemas.
Films For the Ears
This year, the festival in Guangzhou has launched a special program to enable visually impaired children to enjoy both the stories and artistic elements of award-winning films. The program, called "Ears to Watch” will become a permanent part of the China International Children’s Film Festival. The organizers will select a series of outstanding children’s films and transform them into versions that blind children can "watch" with their family. A goal of the program is to allow visually impaired children to gain equal education opportunities as physically fit ones.
The organizers hope to expand the children's film market and encourage film makers to come forward with more entertaining and inspiring films. They also want to create a conducive environment for children to pursue film-making and other creative career paths.
