桃花不叫peach flower，正確說法是？

開花用bloom, blossom還是flower？

枯萎和凋謝，英文有何區別？

Admiring the Spring Flowers 賞春花

Mom: Winter is over and spring is here.

媽媽：冬天過去了，春天來了。

Would you like to go out and take a walk and see the flowers?

你想出去走走，看看花嗎？

Child: Mommy, I would love to.

寶寶：媽媽，我挺想去的。

I will put my shoes on right now!

我現在就去穿鞋！

Daffodils 水仙花① Magnolia 木蘭②

Child: What are those yellow ones growing out of the ground over there?

寶寶: 那邊地上長的小黃的是什麼呀？

Mom: Those are daffodils!

媽媽：那些是水仙花！

Daffodil讀作 ['dæfədil]。

They are the first flowers of spring.

它們是春天最先開花的。

They have six petals and the middle looks like a little cup.

它們有六片花瓣，中間的看起來像個小杯子。

They will last

for about a month.

它們能開大約一個月。

Then the flower will wither.

然後花兒就會枯萎。

根據《現代漢語詞典》的解釋，枯萎：乾枯萎縮，凋謝：脫落，我們認為，凋謝對應的英文是fall，枯萎對應wilt和wither。Wilt和wither都有乾枯和將要死去的意思，後者所處階段更接近最終的死亡。

Child: Can I smell them, Mommy?

寶寶：我能聞聞它們嗎，媽媽？

Mom: Of course!

媽媽：當然可以！

Child: They smell really nice!

寶寶：它們聞起來好香啊！

Mommy, what is that big beautiful pink flower on that tree

?

媽媽，那棵樹上的粉色大花是什麼啊？

Mom: That is a magnolia.

媽媽：那是木蘭。

Magnolia讀作 [mæg'nəuliə]。

A magnolia is an icon of early spring.

木蘭是早春的標誌。

It has large flowers.

它的花朵很大。

Normally it has 6 very large petals.

它一般有6片大花瓣。

They only bloom for a couple of weeks and then fall off the tree.

它們只能開幾周，然後就從樹上落下了。

以下四個詞都可以做動詞表示開花，口語中常用順序是：bloom > come out > flower > blossom。但是，blossom僅表示果樹的開花和花。

Cherry blossom 櫻花③

Child: Mommy, what are those little flowers on that tree?

寶寶：媽媽，那棵樹上的小花是什麼呀？

Mom: That is the cherry blossom tree.

媽媽：那是櫻花樹。

Cherry blossom比日文譯音sakura更常用。櫻花樹的主要功能是觀賞，因此它的英文翻譯是cherry blossom tree，櫻花樹和cherry tree-櫻桃樹開的花都叫cherry blossom。

It's something that is very special in Asia.

它是亞洲特有的。

They bloom for around 14 days, and then they fall from the tree.

它們能開大約14天，然後就從樹上落下了。

They have 5 petals normally, but some can have ten or twenty.

它們一般有5片花瓣，但有的能有10片或者20片。

In Japan, they have picnics under cherry blossom trees to celebrate spring.

在日本，人們會在櫻花樹下野餐來慶祝春天的來臨。

Mom: Look over there at all those colorful flowers.

媽媽：過來看這些五顏六色的花呀。

Child: Oh wow, there is yellow, red, and purple!

它們叫什麼呀，媽媽？

Mom: They are called tulips, and they symbolize love.

媽媽：它們叫鬱金香，它們象徵著愛。

They grow in many colors like red, orange, pink, and yellow.

它們有很多種顏色，比如紅色、橘黃色、粉色和黃色。

They bloom for up to six weeks before they wither and die.

它們最多能開六週，然後就會枯萎和死去。

They grow from a bulb and will grow every year.

它們從一個球莖

Child: And what are those purple ones up there?

寶寶：那邊那些紫色的是什麼呢？

Mom: Those are called lilacs.

Lilac讀作 ['lailək]。

They grow on bushes not trees.

They smell very sweet.

Higan讀作 ['haigən]。

II. Other Common Spring Flowers in China

其他中國春天常見的花

1. Japanese plum blossom 梅花⑩

由於日本對外交流開始得比較早，很多亞洲的事物是最先從日本傳到西方的，因此英語翻譯會在前面加上Japanese，或者採用的日語譯音。小雅認為，管它叫Chinese plum blossom也是可以的。

2. Japanese magnolia 玉蘭⑪

同理，小雅認為，管它叫Chinese magnolia也是可以的。

3. Winter jasmine 迎春花⑫

4. Peach blossom 桃花⑬

Flower泛指所有的花，blossom專指果樹開的花。很多果樹開的花都可以通過果子名稱+blossom表示，如peach blossom 桃花，以及下文的幾種花。
