Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO) Tuesday called on governments and manufacturers to urgently increase the production of personal protective equipment to meet growing demand worldwide.
At a daily media briefing, the WHO chief said it is estimated that the supply of personal protective equipment, such as medical masks, gloves and goggles, needs to be increased by 40 percent globally.
在會上，譚德賽提到由於需求不斷增長以及存在囤積和濫用的現象，全球個人防護裝備供應受到日趨嚴重的影響，進而使各國對疫情的應對能力也受到影響。
自疫情發生以來，外科口罩的價格上漲了六倍，N95口罩的價格上漲了三倍，防護服的價格上漲了兩倍。
The ability of countries to respond to the novel coronavirus is being compromised by the severe and increasing disruption to the global supply of personal protective equipment which is caused by rising demand, hoarding and misuse, said Tedros.
Tedros went on to say that since the coronavirus outbreak, prices of surgical masks have increased sixfold, N95 respirators have tripled in cost and protective gowns cost twice as much.
世衛組織已向27個國家運送了近50萬套個人防護裝備。但這遠遠未能滿足不斷增長的需求。據世衛組織預計，為應對新冠病毒，全球醫護人員每月需要8900萬隻口罩，7600萬雙手套和160萬副護目鏡。
譚德賽表示目前世衛組織已經提供瞭如何合理使用個人防護裝備和有效管理供應鏈的指南，他同時強調各國政府、製造商應該開展合作，以協助提高產量和保障嚴重受疫情影響國家的防護裝備供應量。
The WHO has shipped nearly half a million sets of personal protective equipment to 27 countries. It estimates healthcare workers will need 89 million masks, 76 million gloves and 1.6 million pairs of goggles each month.
Tedros said the WHO has guidelines on how to rationalize the use of personal protective equipment and manage supply chains effectively. He also stressed that governments and manufacturers should carry out cooperation to boost production and secure supplies for critically affected countries.
全球疫情升級，多國民眾搶購防護用品、儲備物資

3月2日，國家發改委發佈消息稱，我國口罩日產能、日產量連續快速增長，雙雙突破1億隻。

Amid the global shortage of personal protective equipment, good news arrived when China announced it has greatly increased its facial mask output and production capacity
According to the data issued by the National Development and Reform Commission on Monday, China's daily output of facial mask has reached 116 million units and, as of Saturday, the daily production capacity was 110 million units.
Besides, the daily output and production capacity of N95-rated medical masks reached 1.66 and 1.96 million units respectively, ensuring that medics at the forefront of the fight against the virus are well-equipped.
