為什麼叫Wonder?
原著書名來自於Natalie Merchant的歌曲Wonder，序言部分是它的歌詞：Doctors have come from distant cities / just to see me / stand over my bed / disbelieving what they’re seeing / They say I must be one of the wonders / of god’s own creation / and as far as they can see they can offer / no explanation.
這段歌詞是R. J. Palacio的創作靈感。Auggie天生畸形，患有mandibulofacial dysostosis。在上5年級之前，他已經經歷過27次大大小小的手術，能過到現在這樣就已經是medical wonder了。
Auggie的出現讓他的同學們懂得什麼是empathy, friendship, and loyalty。讓他的父母懂得如何愛。書的最後一章中，媽媽對他說：
Thank you for everything you've given us, for coming into our lives, for being you. You really are a wonder.

Mr Tushman的名字
校長的名字叫Tushman，tush在俚語中表示“屁屁”，同義詞有butt, buttock, rump, bottom, rear-end, behind。
Tushman可以理解為“屁屁俠”。在中國，他有可能會叫“張美屯” “張辟穀”之類，作為一個校長，他的內心一定很強大才沒有改名字。
在書中爸爸勸Auggie去上學的一個理由是：
You should go to that school just so you can hear his name said over the loudspeaker!

supposably vs. supposedly
領Auggie參觀學校的有3名同學: Julian, Jack, Charlotte。Julian是個“戲精”(phony)，在同學面前特別霸道，在大人面前特別乖的那種(the kind of kid who’s one way in front of grown-ups and another way in front of kids)。
在參觀校園中，Auggie淡淡地指出Julian的語法錯誤：你剛剛說"science elective is supposably really hard"，你說的是supposably，不過實際上應該是supposedly。這告訴我們學好語法很重要...

Like a lamb to the slaughter
爸爸媽媽在討論是否應該讓Auggie去上學的時候，爸爸說不應該，因為it's like leading a lamb to the slaughter."
lead a lamb to the slaughter是個習語，表示“任人宰割”。

《星球大戰》梗
自我介紹的時候Auggie說自己喜歡《星球大戰》。
因為喜歡裡面的Padawan，他留了個小辮子。
Jedi Apprentice: Padawan 絕地(英語：Jedi，/ˈdʒɛˌdaɪ/，也有人音譯為傑迪或齋殆)是星球大戰世界中的光明武士團體，以維持宇宙光明勢力為己任，並精通原力(the Force)相關知識及技巧和使用光劍作為武器，他們懷有高明的戰鬥技能與高尚的品德。其行為準則被認為融合了騎士精神、武士道、佛教及道教等思想或宗教。這個名字是從時代劇(jidai geki)的“時代”一詞發音轉化來。絕地武士的宿敵是代表黑暗面的西斯武士。
Julian問Auggie：
What's your favorite character?
Auggie說是賞金獵人Jango Fett(這哥們身著光亮的盔甲，遮蓋住滿是疤痕的臉)。Julian說：
What about Darth Sidious? Do you like him?
Darth Sidious是個大魔王，他曾被自己黑暗面閃電反射回來的能量嚴重毀容，樣子特別嚇人。Jullian在暗示Auggie長得像Darth Sidious，後來在萬聖節的時候Jullian也扮成了Darth Sidious。

precept
precept/'priːsept/這個詞在原著中出現了36次，在電影中也多次出現。
precept的字面意思是“準則” “戒律”，不過在Mr Browne的定義中，它表示
"Any saying or ground rule that can motivate you" "a precept is anything that helps guide us when making decisions about really important things"。
Browne老師的第一個Precept是：
When given the choice between being right or being kind. Choose kind.
這也是全書的主題之一：be kind.
Browne老師鼓勵學生們自己寫precept，Auggie寫的是：
Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world.
這段話也出現在了電影的結尾處。
