完整範文：In my country, it seems all students, no matter if they are at primary school, high school, or university, are overloaded with homework. Some of them have to burn the midnight oil to deal with the incredibly tricky questions, countless mock tests, and rather challenging papers. Seeing this, some parents, not a small proportion, choose to give some help to their children, while others choose to be tough, insisting that one should be responsible for one’s own task. In fact, if I were the parent, I might be “cold” too, since I believe it would benefit both the children and parents in the long run.
To begin with, constant help from parents might do harm to their child’s independence, which is a key factor in their future life. It is common for children to encounter some difficulties while doing homework. A maths question can drive them crazy; an abstract article can make them confused; a writing task can be a real struggle. If the parents, at this time, give a hand, the questions can be solved for sure, but the children might take it for granted that their parents are always there for help. Gradually, they become too reliant on others, and the potential for independent thinking deteriorates. Conversely, if the children are encouraged to complete the assignment themselves, they are likely to find the beauty of maths, the logic of an article, and the happiness derived from writing. This experience would enable them to remain positive to solve problems individually from then on.
In addition, helping children with their homework would consume too much of the parents’ time and energy. As a result, they are unable to have quality time at home, which normally leads to bad moods, domestic conflicts, and poor work performance. Imagine that a mother rushes back home after work, and prepares dinner immediately. When her Grade 6 daughter comes back home and finishes dinner, it is already 7pm. Then she monitors her daughter to do the homework. When necessary, she would have to teach and explain what is required in the homework, which might take hours. After that, the laundry, the used dishes or cups still cry out for her. No wonder how exhausted she would be the next day.
To sum up, it would be wise to encourage young children or teenagers to do homework by themselves. This not only ensures their independence, but also relieves parents’ burden.
