劍橋考試中心對於經濟essay level4的要求，也就是一篇出彩的essay應該是符合哪些特點的，同學們都知道，經濟學學科的學習目標分為4個，分別是：
Knowledge & understanding
Application
Analysis
Evaluation (這是往往是最難的)
想要達到level4，我們分別要在這四個目標做做到以下幾點：
1. Knowledge & understanding：知識點方面需要做到詳細的解釋，並且與題目所要求的任務匹配，也就是說，你知道題目在問什麼，應該用你所學過的哪些知識點，並且能夠詳細地表達出來；
2. application：應用能力。一方面是你能夠判斷出來題目所給的背景和案例，背後的經濟學原理是什麼？當你提出一個點的時候，你能否聯繫到實際的例子，或則一些數據。比如我們在回答GDP是否能做作為living standard的主要指標的時候，其中一個點是real GDP per head 忽略了distribution of income, 這時候你可以引用用來衡量貧富差距的Gini coefficient (基尼係數)。
3. analysis： 這個目標考察你在經濟學概念和思路去分析問題的時候有邏輯和連貫性，做到有理有據。一般在分析的時候，你可以用一些具有邏輯連接性的詞組，比如: this may lead to, as a result, this may result in, as a consequence, therefore, however等等。A fall in the price of e-cigarettes may result in more smokers substituting e-cigarettes for traditional cigarettes, thereby leading to a fall in the demand for traditional cigarettes.
4. evaluation: 如何有效地進行評估，可以從以下角度出發，之前的邏輯成立的前提是什麼，如果前提和假設不成立會怎麼樣？你要考慮一些列的因素，角度和論點，這些因素與角度可能會影響你的結論。
在evaluation部分，經常用到的表達有: however, this depends on..., however, from the perspective of ...., even though...., 舉個簡單的例子，the effectiveness of a tax in reducing cigarette consumption depends on the price elasticity of demand. ........ 這個角度就是在評估PED對於indirect tax在減少香菸消費的作用上起到了一定的決定作用，彈性的大小會影響它的作用。
