(2019·安徽皖南八校聯考)Taylor Swift began her music career as a country artist. But she has long appealed to both country and pop music fans. In 2014, the 25-year-old superstar tried something new. Swift released her fifth album, 1989. In its first week of release, 1989 sold 1.287 million copies, the best sales week for an album since 2002. Her great efforts paid off.

Swift was born on December 13, 1989. She grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania. As a child, Swift loved to write and perform songs. She signed a publishing contract with Sony/ATV at age 14, the youngest songwriter the company had ever signed. In 2006, she released her first album, called Taylor Swift. Eight years later, she released her fifth studio album, 1989, and this album made her one of the most successful writer-artists of the millennium (千禧年).

Swift has proven herself to be a savvy (有見識的) businesswoman. She knows how to make albums people will pay for. Her last three albums each sold more than a million copies in one week. In November 2014, Swift made headlines for removing her music from Spotify, a popular online streaming service that allows users listen to music for free with ads. “I think that people should feel that there is a value to what musicians have created,” she told Time.

In October, New York City’s tourism organization announced Swift as its new “Global Welcome Ambassador”. Her song Welcome to New York from 1989 was inspired by her move to New York City. Swift donated all the income from the song to the New York City public school system.

Throughout her career, Swift has left room in her busy schedule to give back. The non-profit DoSomething.org named Swift the most charitable celebrity of 2013. She’s also known for surprising her fans. In the months preparing for the release of 1989, Swift assembled small groups of her biggest supporters for private listening parties, where she baked treats for them and previewed her new music to share with them.
