China has a long history of many cultural relics, but many people who love cultural relics will not want them to go abroad. And some people are selfless. They will choose to donate their cultural relics to the country to protect them. Even Puyi donated some for free, such as the Tian Huangshi triple seal which is now collected in the Palace Museum. Tian Huangshi's triple seal was originally the seal of Emperor Qianlong. When Puyi was expelled from the Forbidden City, he took it with him and donated it to the state in 1955. However, some people donate cultural relics to the United States for free. People in China can only spend a huge sum of money to buy them, sometimes they don't sell them. This person is called Weng Vango.

There are a large number of cultural relics in Weng Vango's home, many of which are boutiques, which are not collected by him, but obtained from his family. All of this starts with a man named Weng Tonghe. In the late Qing Dynasty, most people may be familiar with Li Hongzhang, Zeng Guofan, Zuo Zongtang and others, and Weng Tonghe is a person of the same era. Weng Tonghe was born in 1830 and died in 1904.

His experience is not simple. In 1856, Xianfeng won the first place in the palace examination, that is, the number one scholar. Later, he entered the military aircraft department twice, and successively served as the emperor division of Tongzhi and Guangxu. Those cultural relics were not accumulated by the Weng Tonghe generation. His father was Weng Xincun, a scholar of the Ti renge University. He was also an influential figure in the dynasty. He especially likes collecting books. According to the records, he once bought 40000 books, which are of great collection value.

After the death of Weng Xincun, according to the ancient logic, most of the books were collected by Weng Tongshu, the eldest son, but Weng Tongshu gave the collection to Weng Tonghe after his death. Weng Tonghe probably inherited his father's favorite collection, and bought some from time to time. In order to please him, the emperor's teacher would also find some valuable books to send. Weng Tonghe has been an official in the capital for more than 40 years, and his contacts are far beyond the reach of ordinary collectors. Later scholars have always believed that his collection has many good books of high academic value, which still belong to the kind of national treasure level important cultural relics according to the standard.

However, although Weng Tonghe collected a lot in his life, he did not have a son to inherit, so after his death, all his inheritance was passed on to his brother Weng tongjue to his son Weng zenghhan. Unfortunately, in the later inheritance, some people had no children, so they had to find a child from the descendants of Weng Tonghe's brother Weng Tongshu to inherit, and this child is Weng Vango. It's not a matter of generations. It's also a matter of pie in the sky. It's only because there are no children.

Born in 1918, he was only two years old when he was adopted and accepted. From the age of two, he doesn't have to worry about his future life. These cultural relics can last him for several lifetimes. In order to protect these collections, Weng Vango packed them as soon as the war began in 1938, and transported them from Tianjin to Shanghai and then to New York, the United States. Since then, he has been living in New York. It is estimated that Weng Tonghe would never think that the final destination of the cultural relics he has spent his whole life collecting is foreign museums. Maybe it's still handed down from generation to generation. At the beginning, Weng Tonghe was able to delay the Beiyang Navy for the sake of his enmity with Li Hongzhang.

In 2000, Weng sold more than 80 rare ancient books of song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties collected by his family to Shanghai Library at a price of 4.5 million US dollars through auction company. It's nothing to buy. After all, it's from someone else's house. However, to everyone's surprise, Weng Vango turned around and donated a batch of money to the United States for free. On December 13, 2018, the Boston Museum of art announced that they received the largest number of paintings and calligraphy donations from Weng Vango

There are 183 pieces in total, including 130 paintings, 31 calligraphy, 18 rubbings and 4 embroidery. These cultural relics have different values, which are basically included in the Five Dynasties of the 13th century. Weng was also a long-term patron of Boston Museum. In 1875, Weng Tonghe bought the map of Yangtze River, which was also sent out by him. This picture, after Weng Tonghe bought it, he couldn't love it. He spent 400 liang of silver to give it away, so he gave it away for free. I don't know if Weng Tonghe knew the collection he had worked hard to collect, would he be angry and smoke if he was sent to a foreign country by Weng Vango?
