說到“下下週”的英語，很多人的第一反應是不是“next next week”？這麼說很Chinglish，正確的說法是“the week after the next”。英語中有很多和時間有關的俚語，今天就和大家分享其中一些，以後見到就不會再一頭霧水了。
1.around the clock
“around the clock”的意思是“全天候，晝夜不斷的”，如果用來形容某個事物，說明它是24小時全天候營業的。
The hotel's service is great, there is always someone available to help you around the clock.
這家酒店的服務很棒，總有人可以24小時幫助你。
2.call it a day/night
這個表達的意思是“到此為止”，可以表示暫時停止，也可以用作俚語，表示某事已經完全結束了。
Right guys, you've worked really hard. I think it's time to call it a night, I'll see you all again tomorrow.
是的，夥計們，你們真的很努力。我覺得該結束了，我們明天再見。
Neither of us was happy in the relationship, so we decided to call it a day.
我們倆對這段感情關係都不滿意，所以決定分手。
3.against the clock
這個相信很多小夥伴都不陌生，翻譯成中文就是“爭分奪秒”。
I worked day and night against the clock to get this done on time.

4.call time
“call time”的意思是“宣佈暫停”。
I think we should call time on this project.
我認為我們應該停止這個項目。
5.days are numbered
numbered有時日無多和有限的意思，所以“days are numbered”其實是表示某人生命已經時日無多。
The doctors say his days are numbered. They don't have much hope of him surviving this illness.
醫生說他已經時日無多。他們對他在這場病中活下來不抱多大希望。
6.eleventh hour
“eleventh hour”可不是什麼“十一點”的意思，它真正的意思是“最後時刻，剛好來得及”。
At the eleventh hour, he came first and won the race!
他在最後時刻得了第一名並且贏得了比賽。
這個表達出自聖經的《馬太福音》。古時候，有個富人想僱幾個人到他的園子裡去幹活，他從早上五點就開始僱人，僱到最後一個人時已經是夜裡很晚了。幹完活後付工錢時，結果大早上來的和夜裡來的都是一樣的工資，於是一大早就開始幹活的人極為不滿，既然只要不超12點來做工的工錢都一樣多，那還不如在最後時刻來呢。因此“at the eleventh hour”就成為了“在最後時刻，剛好來得及”的意思。
那麼，可能有小夥伴會問11點怎麼說，正確表達是“Eleven o'clock”。
7.crunch time
“crunch time”的意思是“關鍵時刻、關鍵時間”，在“crunch time”做出的決定都是很重大的決定。
He knew it was crunch time.
他知道這是關鍵時刻。
8.carry the day
打遊戲的時候我們經常會遇到carry這個詞，我carry你啊，帶你上分什麼的。但是“carry the day”是什麼意思呢？它的意思是“戰勝，獲勝”，形容經過了很長時間的對決最終獲得勝利。

9.big time
“big time”真正的意思是“非常，很多”，等於“very much”或者“a lot”。

After John hit the big time, he became very rich and forgot about all his old friends.

11.five o'clock shadow
千萬不要把“five o'clock shadow”翻譯成“5點的影子”，那可鬧大笑話了！它真正的意思是男生一兩天不刮鬍子之後臉上出現的毛髮。

12.a whale of a time
如果玩得很開心，就可以說“a whale of a time”。

13.year in, year out
如果我們想說“年復一年”，就可以用“year in, year out”這個表達，即連續多年每年都會發生的事情。
Our family holidays are so boring now. Year in, year out we go to the same holiday resort and stay in the same old hotel!
我們的家庭度假很無聊。年復一年都去同樣的度假地待在同樣的老酒店裡！
14.a day late and a dollar short
“晚了一天，少了一美元”？其實它的意思是“差一點點，差一步”，即某件事發生得有點太晚，不足以接受。

15.once in a blue moon
藍色的月亮？其實它的意思是“千載難逢；極為罕見”。
My grandparents live in Canada. I only get to see them once in a blue moon, because it's very expensive to fly there.

16.two-time
