並列連詞把兩個或兩個以上的簡單句連在一起構成並列(複合)句。各個簡單句並列平行，同等重要，相互之間沒有從屬關係，能夠獨立成句。連詞前可用逗號，也可不用逗號。
1.表示並列關係或事件先後關係→ and “並且，而且”
His father is a teacher and his mother is a doctor.他父親是一位老師，他母親是一位醫生。
Recycling can protect the environment,and it can save money,too.
回收利用可以保護環境，並且也可以節約資金。
Tom finished his work, and then he went to bed.湯姆完成了工作，然後去睡覺了。
Study hard and you will pass the exam.努力學習你就能通過考試。
2.表示轉折或對比關係→but “但是”，while“然而”
He has failed several times, but he never gives up.他失敗了好幾次，但是他從沒放棄。
People produce power from coal,but it is very dirty and causes acid rain.
人們用煤發電，但煤很髒而且會造成酸雨。
He is tall, while his son is short.他很高，然而他兒子很矮。
Some things are good for the earth,while some are bad.有些事對地球是有益的，而有些事是有害的。
3.表示選擇關係→or “否則，或者”
Hurry up, or you will miss the bus.趕快，否則你會錯過公交車。
Work hard,or you will fail the exam.努力學習，否則你就會考試不及格。
Do it yourself or ask somebody else to do it.你自己做這件事，或者請別人做。
4.表示因果關係→so “因此，所以”
Her mother is ill,so she has to stay at home and look after her.她母親病了，因此她不得不待在家照顧她
I didn’t catch the bus,so I was late for work.我沒能趕上公交車，所以我上班遲到了。
備註：
1）though/although“雖然，儘管”與but“但是”不可連用,即不能同時存在於同一複合句中。
雖然我沒有時間去旅行，但是我仍然感到很開心。
錯誤：Though/Although I have no time to travel,but I still feel happy.
正確：Though/Although I have no time to travel,I still feel happy.
=I still feel happy though/although I have no time to travel.
正確：I have no time to travel,but I still feel happy.
2）because“因為”與so “因此，所以”不可連用,即不能同時存在於同一複合句中。
因為他丟失了票，所以今晚他沒有去看電影。
正確：He won’t go to the cinema tonight because he has lost his ticket..
= Because he has lost his ticket，he won’t go to the cinema tonight.
=He has lost his ticket，so he won’t go to the cinema tonight.
錯誤：Because he has lost his ticket，so he won’t go to the cinema tonight.
3）“祈使句 + and + 簡單句”→ 祈使句表示一個條件，簡單句表示一個較好的結果，簡單句
的謂語動詞多用一般將來時態。
Go along the street, and you’ll find the post office.沿著這條街走，你將會發現郵局。
Go across the road ,and you will see a bridge.穿過這條路，你就會看見一座橋。
Work hard and you will succeed in the final exam.
(=If you work hard ,you will succeed in the final exam)
“祈使句 + or + 簡單句”→ 祈使句表示一個條件，簡單句表示一個不好的結果，簡單句
的謂語動詞常用一般將來時態。
Be quick,or you’ll be late.快點，否則你將會遲到。
Be careful,or you’ll get hurt.小心，否則你將會受傷。
Study hard,or you can’t pass the exam.努力學習，否則你不能通過考試。
Work hard ,or you will fail in the final exam
(=If you don't work hard ,you will fail in the final exam)
