be amazed 与 be surprised 都可以表示“吃惊、惊讶”，他们的区别也比较细微：
be amazed“感到惊讶”，含有非常吃惊的意思，往往吃惊道不敢相信，觉得不可能的事情但事实上还是发生了；
如：
After he had dived deep into the sea, he was amazed to see the beautiful colours of all the coral reefs.
他深潜到海中之后，被所那些珊瑚礁的美丽色彩惊呆了。
You'll be amazed at the culinary creations possible in a Dutch oven.
荷兰烤箱能够做的食物之多会让你感到惊奇。
She was amazed at the UFO hanging over her head.
她被悬停在上空的UFO惊呆了。
be surprised“感到吃惊”指人对突然发生的情况感到惊讶，有被“吓了一跳”的感觉。
如：
Hearing the loud voice downstairs, she was surprised.
听到楼下传来的声音，她大吃一惊。
Nobody should be surprised by this. It's been in the works for some time.
不应该有人对此感到惊奇，这事已经张罗了有一阵子了。
I would be surprised, actually, if he left Birmingham.
