We drove to the centre of the city and parked our car in front of the supermarket. An hour later we came back to the car. However, we couldn’t open the door of our car. It was so strange.

“Oh, dear,” said my wife, “What shall we do?”

“Let’s ask a policeman,” I answered.

The policeman was very kind and glad to help us. A few minutes later, he got the door open. Just then a man came up. Jenny was a good girl, but she had one shortcoming (缺點). She was often late for school. The teacher was very angry with her. He said, “If you’re not here on time (及時) tomorrow, I’ll write to your parents.”

So the next day Jenny got up early and caught the early bus. But when she arrived at the school gate, she saw that there was something on the ground. It was a wallet (錢包) “Whose is it?” She decided to give it to the headmaster.

When she came to the classroom, her teacher had already begun his lesson. “You’re late again. Didn’t I tell you last time …” Just then the door was opened. The headmaster came in. “Is this your wallet?” he asked the teacher. “Yes, it’s mine. Who found it? I must thank him.”

C. Dear Wang Yan,

I just had the greatest vacation of my life! Most people think that Alaska is always cold and snowy,

but I had a great time there. It’s true the weather there isn’t like Florida, but when I was there the

temperature went up to 70 Fahrenheit. And there is so much to see and do!

The first few days we went camping at Glacier Bay. We went fishing and I caught a salmon that

was over three feet long! And we also saw whales. I had never been so close to a whale before and I

was fascinated. Later we took an air taxi to a lake where there were no roads and no people. It was

really beautiful and peaceful. We took a lot of pictures.

I can’t wait to see you and show you all my pictures.

Yours,

Carlos

G. Harry Potter

The idea for the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came to Joanne Kathleen Rowling in 1990. It took her seven years to finish writing it. During those years she had a number of jobs, including one job as an English teacher in Portugal.

Rowling sent the book to four publishers before one of them bought it. She was very happy to sell the book because it was her life’s dream to be a published writer.
