轉眼間，特朗普已經任職美國總統一年多的時間。記得當初希拉里阿姨在精選的時候，曾經承諾要讓STEM專業研究生畢業自動獲得綠卡，雖然她在競選中落敗，但也足以見得她對STEM專業的重視程度。不過好在特朗普跟希拉里兩人對STEM的重視程度是相同的。
2016年5月10日開始，“STEM專業OPT延期最終政策文件”正式生效，其中最值得關注的就是STEM專業的OPT從17個月延期到24個月，加上原有12個月的OPT時間，STEM專業學生OPT總共有36個月的時間！
由此，美國對STEM人才的重視程度可見一斑！
那麼今天，我們就來聊聊在美國如此受重視的“STEM”。
STEM
STEM由Science、Technology、Engineer和Mathematics的首字母組成，比如化工、計算機科學、物理、數學、航空航天之類的。並且根據文章開頭提到的政策，在美國讀STEM的畢業生將有36個月的時間來找工作和申請H1B工作簽證。
你適合STEM嗎？
STEM專業大部分是理工科類的，所以國內與STEM 這些專業相對應的理工科學生都是比較適合申請的。整體而言，美國招收理科專業學生的數量是遠遠不及工科學生數量的。而在工科專業中，電子工程、計算機、機械工程是招生規模和申請人數最多的三個工科專業。而對於理科，雖然國內本科培養的理科專業人數也不少，例如生物專業，但由於該專業的學生在職業初期的薪水普遍非常低，薪水也反映了一定的供給和需求，所以國際生去美國讀生物科學並不是一個非常理想的選擇。
另一方面，文商科的學生有些專業也是在STEM大類下面。例如近些年比較熱門的金融工程，金融數學，商業數據分析、信息管理系統，以及新加入STEM大類的經濟學方面的計量經濟學、數理經濟學。這些一般都是商學院下開設的專業，在申請時也會招收文商科背景的學生，但大家可能都看出來，這部分專業雖然屬於商科，往往都是對學生的數理背景、計算機能力有著很高的要求。所以文商科的學生想要申請美國STEM專業，可以以這些專業為跳板，同時要儘早提升自己數學和計算機方面的背景。
