故事概述
爸爸帶著一家人去觀看馬戲表演。這個演出可不簡單，有四個小朋友常見的形狀藏在節目裡，它們是圓形、三角形、長方形和正方形。不僅如此，隨著表演進展，每種形狀的基本特徵也明顯地展現出來，比如：三角形的三條邊和三個角，正方形一樣長的四條邊等等。
除了以上數學知識的啟蒙，一些馬戲團相關的英語表達也可以在書中習得。
共讀建議
好的繪本經得起反覆閱讀。同一個故事家長可以多次講給孩子，每次側重點不同。比如——
可以從顏色入手，先給孩子做色彩詞彙輸入；
可以從圖形角度，重點介紹每種圖形的英文名稱；
可以從數學思維角度，強調圖形認知和學習；
也可以從生活角度，強化各種常用短語的輸入；
還可以藉此向孩子普及馬戲團知識。
另外，就“形狀”（shape）這一數學概念而言，在生活中很容易找到拓展學習的素材。你可以帶著孩子玩找形狀的遊戲，比如書、鐘錶、紐扣、窗戶、三明治等等。讓孩子用英語指認物品並且辨別形狀。還可以讓孩子試著用不同形狀的紙片拼成他們想象中的物品/動物模樣，鍛鍊孩子的創造能力。
書的最後有非常實用的親子互動及共讀建議，家長可以直接引用。

馬戲團裡的形狀（下）
小小常：媽媽，你看這本書的封皮，一隻獅子在籠子裡，外面這人拿著鞭子，它們在幹嘛？
常媽：Well, this could be a circus show. 這可能是個馬戲表演吧。 Circus 就是馬戲團， cir-cus circus 馬戲團。你看這位先生手裡拿著鞭子，是在訓練籠子裡的獅子。 So the man is the ringmaster. 這位男士應該是馬戲團的指揮。Ringmaster就是馬戲團指揮員 ring-master ringmaster. 所以，這個故事和馬戲團有關。
小小常：媽媽快講吧~
常媽：在一個風景優美的地方，住著許多無憂無慮的人們。 一天，這裡來了個馬戲團 A circus comes to the town。 還貼出了馬戲表演的公告。人們把這個消息互相轉告：The circus is in town. The circus is in town. 馬戲團進城啦，馬戲團進城啦！大人紛紛去觀看。一位爸爸對他的三個孩子說：“The circus is in town and…” 爸爸還沒說完，孩子們異口同聲地說“We all get to go!” 我們都要去。
小小常：如果我們這裡有馬戲表演，我也會對你和爸爸說：“We all get to go.” 不過，後來這位爸爸和他的小孩們去了麼？
常媽：當然去了。 馬戲團搭了個大大的帳篷tent。 表演和參觀演出都是在這個tent裡。 觀眾的座位是一圈比一圈高的看臺，中心就是馬戲表演的地方。 爸爸和孩子們在比較高的位置找到了他們的座位。 其中一個孩子說：”Our seats are way up high. 我們的座位高高在上，We can see everything 我們什麼都能到看到。”孩子們聊著聊著，聽到廣播說：
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, are you ready for the show? 先生們女士們， 下午好， 你們準備好看錶演了嗎？”
小小常：”Yes, we’re ready for the show.” 媽媽，孩子們和我一樣，都準備好看錶演了。 We are ready for the show.
常媽：表演開始了，誰最先出場呢？
小小常：The lion on the cover！封皮上的獅子！
常媽：沒有指揮者獅子可能會亂跑呢。所以當然是指揮員the ringmaster 最先出場。The ringmaster arrives in a red car. 指揮員坐著一輛紅色的小車出場了。 小小常，你看這裡。
小小常 ：車上有個粉色小旗子 The flag is a triangle. 小旗子還是個三角形。
常媽：Yup, it’s a funny little car. 是一輛很有意思的小車。 指揮員向觀眾問候致敬之後，就開始指揮了。 下面入場的呀，是一位非常受歡迎的馬戲明星It’s a very famous circus star. 你看看他有什麼特別之處？
小小常：他的腿為什麼這麼長？
常媽：哈哈， 那是因為他踩著高蹺走進來的，高蹺叫做stilt，st-ilt stilt. 兩隻腳要踩兩隻高蹺就是two stilts. 所以這個人 This man walks in on stilts. 因為他特別有名，所以一出場，全場沸騰了。
小小常：A man on stilts walks in. He’s a favorite circus star. 那他表演完了該誰出場了呢？
常媽：你看—
小小常：Elephants! 1-2-3-4-5, five elephants.
常媽：Yes, two of the elephants make a circle. 其中的兩隻大象還做了圓圈， 其它的大象列隊鑽這個圓圈，然後一圈一圈不停的行走表演。The other elephants march round and round.
小小常：Elephants make a circle and then march round and round. 唉，大象的衣服都一樣，上面還有好幾個circles呢。
常媽：Right! 你看右下角， there are four circles of different colors.
小小常：1 blue circle, 1 red circle, 1 green circle and 1 yellow circle.
常媽：Good! 接下來呀，馬戲團的樂隊the circus band 出場了，The circus band starts playing. 馬戲樂隊開始演奏了，馬戲帳篷裡立刻充滿了熱鬧的音樂 The tent fills up with sound.
小小常： fill up with 什麼意思呢？
常媽：fill up with 就是裝滿，充滿了某樣東西的意思。你的口袋裡裝滿了糖果， 就是Your pocket fills up with candies. 所以你看，樂隊使勁兒演奏著，於是馬戲帳篷裡就充滿了響亮的音樂。
小小常： 我的小小常樂隊開始演奏的時候，我們家就充滿了聲音。 My little John’s Band starts playing. Our home fills up with sound.
常媽：非常對！接下來呀，輪到白馬隊出場啦！ The white horses come in. 你看他們做了個什麼？
小小常：A big big triangle! 一個大大的三角形。
常媽：Yes, the white horses make a triangle. 小小常，what shape has three corners and three sides? 什麼形狀有三個角和三條邊？
小小常：Triangle! A triangle has three corners and three sides.
常媽：Very good!
小小常：Mom, look. There are 4 triangles here.
常媽：Yes, let’s move on with our story. 白馬隊表演完就是小丑和舞蹈狗狗隊出場了The clowns and dancing dogs come out. 你來數一下這裡有幾個小丑和幾隻狗狗呢?
小小常: 1 clown, 2 clowns, 3 clowns. 1 dog, 2 dogs, 3 dogs, 4,5,6, six dogs. There are three clowns and six dogs. 有三個小丑，六隻狗狗。
常媽: 嗯，小丑拉著車The clowns are pulling wagons. 你看狗狗在哪兒？
小小常: The dancing dogs are sitting on the wagon. 它們坐在車上了呀。
常媽: 嗯！The dancing dogs get rides. 舞蹈狗狗們坐在小丑們拉的車上表演著。
小小常: 然後就是猴子們出場了。Monkeys come out. Wow, 6 monkeys. 好多猴子啊！
常媽: 確實是不少。不過它們還有分工呢， 你看！ Some monkeys make a square. 有幾隻猴子做了一個正方形。
小小常: Mom, the four sides are all the same. 正方形的四條邊是一樣長的。
常媽: Excellent! Look at the four squares in the corner.
小小常: 1 blue square, 1 orange square, 1 yellow square and 1 green square.
常媽: 很好！ 接下來呀輪到獅子上場了。 獅子一上場就開始咆哮 “Roar!!! Roar!!!” The lions start their roaring.
小小常: 那太嚇人了媽媽。
常媽: 是的，they are not very tame. 它們可不是特別的溫馴。Tame是馴服、溫順的意思t-a-me tame.
小小常: My cat is very tame.
常媽: True! 馴獸師一看獅子們不是很乖，趕緊帶著它們退場了。 接下來就是…
小小常: Brown bears!
常媽: 嗯，bears 熊出場表演了。它們騎著雙輪車bicycles. They ride the bicycles and form a rectangle. 還組了個大長方形呢。
小小常: 媽媽，a rectangle has 2 sides short and 2 sides long.
常媽: Correct! 你看這裡四個長方形。
小小常: 1 blue rectangle, 1 green rectangle, 1 orange rectangle, 1 yellow rectangle.
常媽: Bingo! 然後呀， 幾名雜技演員acrobats 出場了，acrobat, acrobat a-cro-bat acrobat 雜技演員。
他們在舞臺的高空處各種旋轉擺動， acrobats are twirling. Twirl 就是像雜技演員那樣地旋轉、轉動。
小小常: 太精彩了！媽媽！
常媽: 是的， the acrobats are twirling to a special circus song. 他們隨著一首很特別的雜技音樂表演著。 這時候的表演進入了高潮， 雜技帳篷中非常熱鬧，獅子、大象、白馬、小丑、狗狗、雜技演員紛紛表演著， 而且馬戲團裡到處都是各種形狀的馬戲道具 circus shapes are everywhere. 雜技帳篷裡燈火輝煌。The tent is all aglow. Aglow 的意思是通紅的，發紅的。過春節的時候，爸爸給你做的燈籠，當它被點亮的時候，就可以說it is aglow。
小小常：這個馬戲團太好玩了， 後面還有什麼表演嗎？
常媽： 這時， 聽到一聲哨子響。 原來啊是指揮員吹了哨， the ringmaster blows his whistle. Whistle 是哨子， 你的抽屜裡就有一個whistle。 我們外出的時候你總帶著。 如果和爸爸媽媽走散了你就會blow your whistle. 吹著你的哨子，爸爸媽媽就可以順著哨聲找到你。 不過，這裡指揮員吹哨子可不是在找誰。 他是告訴大家，演出結束了。 It’s time to end the show.
小小常： 好吧，it’s time to end the story. 也到了故事結束的時候了…… 哎……
常媽：好了，來和媽媽複習一下這幾個形狀吧：What shapes are they?
This is a circle.
The circle is round.
A circle has no end.
This is a triangle.
A triangle has three corners and three sides.
This is a square.
A square has four sides.
The four sides are all the same.
This is a rectangle.
A rectangle has 4 sides, 2 sides short and 2 sides long.
A rectangle has two short sides and two long sides.
