故事概述
爸爸带着一家人去观看马戏表演。这个演出可不简单，有四个小朋友常见的形状藏在节目里，它们是圆形、三角形、长方形和正方形。不仅如此，随着表演进展，每种形状的基本特征也明显地展现出来，比如：三角形的三条边和三个角，正方形一样长的四条边等等。
除了以上数学知识的启蒙，一些马戏团相关的英语表达也可以在书中习得。
共读建议
好的绘本经得起反复阅读。同一个故事家长可以多次讲给孩子，每次侧重点不同。比如——
可以从颜色入手，先给孩子做色彩词汇输入；
可以从图形角度，重点介绍每种图形的英文名称；
可以从数学思维角度，强调图形认知和学习；
也可以从生活角度，强化各种常用短语的输入；
还可以借此向孩子普及马戏团知识。
另外，就“形状”（shape）这一数学概念而言，在生活中很容易找到拓展学习的素材。你可以带着孩子玩找形状的游戏，比如书、钟表、纽扣、窗户、三明治等等。让孩子用英语指认物品并且辨别形状。还可以让孩子试着用不同形状的纸片拼成他们想象中的物品/动物模样，锻炼孩子的创造能力。
书的最后有非常实用的亲子互动及共读建议，家长可以直接引用。

马戏团里的形状（下）
小小常：妈妈，你看这本书的封皮，一只狮子在笼子里，外面这人拿着鞭子，它们在干嘛？
常妈：Well, this could be a circus show. 这可能是个马戏表演吧。 Circus 就是马戏团， cir-cus circus 马戏团。你看这位先生手里拿着鞭子，是在训练笼子里的狮子。 So the man is the ringmaster. 这位男士应该是马戏团的指挥。Ringmaster就是马戏团指挥员 ring-master ringmaster. 所以，这个故事和马戏团有关。
小小常：妈妈快讲吧~
常妈：在一个风景优美的地方，住着许多无忧无虑的人们。 一天，这里来了个马戏团 A circus comes to the town。 还贴出了马戏表演的公告。人们把这个消息互相转告：The circus is in town. The circus is in town. 马戏团进城啦，马戏团进城啦！大人纷纷去观看。一位爸爸对他的三个孩子说：“The circus is in town and…” 爸爸还没说完，孩子们异口同声地说“We all get to go!” 我们都要去。
小小常：如果我们这里有马戏表演，我也会对你和爸爸说：“We all get to go.” 不过，后来这位爸爸和他的小孩们去了么？
常妈：当然去了。 马戏团搭了个大大的帐篷tent。 表演和参观演出都是在这个tent里。 观众的座位是一圈比一圈高的看台，中心就是马戏表演的地方。 爸爸和孩子们在比较高的位置找到了他们的座位。 其中一个孩子说：”Our seats are way up high. 我们的座位高高在上，We can see everything 我们什么都能到看到。”孩子们聊着聊着，听到广播说：
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, are you ready for the show? 先生们女士们， 下午好， 你们准备好看表演了吗？”
小小常：”Yes, we’re ready for the show.” 妈妈，孩子们和我一样，都准备好看表演了。 We are ready for the show.
常妈：表演开始了，谁最先出场呢？
小小常：The lion on the cover！封皮上的狮子！
常妈：没有指挥者狮子可能会乱跑呢。所以当然是指挥员the ringmaster 最先出场。The ringmaster arrives in a red car. 指挥员坐着一辆红色的小车出场了。 小小常，你看这里。
小小常 ：车上有个粉色小旗子 The flag is a triangle. 小旗子还是个三角形。
常妈：Yup, it’s a funny little car. 是一辆很有意思的小车。 指挥员向观众问候致敬之后，就开始指挥了。 下面入场的呀，是一位非常受欢迎的马戏明星It’s a very famous circus star. 你看看他有什么特别之处？
小小常：他的腿为什么这么长？
常妈：哈哈， 那是因为他踩着高跷走进来的，高跷叫做stilt，st-ilt stilt. 两只脚要踩两只高跷就是two stilts. 所以这个人 This man walks in on stilts. 因为他特别有名，所以一出场，全场沸腾了。
小小常：A man on stilts walks in. He’s a favorite circus star. 那他表演完了该谁出场了呢？
常妈：你看—
小小常：Elephants! 1-2-3-4-5, five elephants.
常妈：Yes, two of the elephants make a circle. 其中的两只大象还做了圆圈， 其它的大象列队钻这个圆圈，然后一圈一圈不停的行走表演。The other elephants march round and round.
小小常：Elephants make a circle and then march round and round. 唉，大象的衣服都一样，上面还有好几个circles呢。
常妈：Right! 你看右下角， there are four circles of different colors.
小小常：1 blue circle, 1 red circle, 1 green circle and 1 yellow circle.
常妈：Good! 接下来呀，马戏团的乐队the circus band 出场了，The circus band starts playing. 马戏乐队开始演奏了，马戏帐篷里立刻充满了热闹的音乐 The tent fills up with sound.
小小常： fill up with 什么意思呢？
常妈：fill up with 就是装满，充满了某样东西的意思。你的口袋里装满了糖果， 就是Your pocket fills up with candies. 所以你看，乐队使劲儿演奏着，于是马戏帐篷里就充满了响亮的音乐。
小小常： 我的小小常乐队开始演奏的时候，我们家就充满了声音。 My little John’s Band starts playing. Our home fills up with sound.
常妈：非常对！接下来呀，轮到白马队出场啦！ The white horses come in. 你看他们做了个什么？
小小常：A big big triangle! 一个大大的三角形。
常妈：Yes, the white horses make a triangle. 小小常，what shape has three corners and three sides? 什么形状有三个角和三条边？
小小常：Triangle! A triangle has three corners and three sides.
常妈：Very good!
小小常：Mom, look. There are 4 triangles here.
常妈：Yes, let’s move on with our story. 白马队表演完就是小丑和舞蹈狗狗队出场了The clowns and dancing dogs come out. 你来数一下这里有几个小丑和几只狗狗呢?
小小常: 1 clown, 2 clowns, 3 clowns. 1 dog, 2 dogs, 3 dogs, 4,5,6, six dogs. There are three clowns and six dogs. 有三个小丑，六只狗狗。
常妈: 嗯，小丑拉着车The clowns are pulling wagons. 你看狗狗在哪儿？
小小常: The dancing dogs are sitting on the wagon. 它们坐在车上了呀。
常妈: 嗯！The dancing dogs get rides. 舞蹈狗狗们坐在小丑们拉的车上表演着。
小小常: 然后就是猴子们出场了。Monkeys come out. Wow, 6 monkeys. 好多猴子啊！
常妈: 确实是不少。不过它们还有分工呢， 你看！ Some monkeys make a square. 有几只猴子做了一个正方形。
小小常: Mom, the four sides are all the same. 正方形的四条边是一样长的。
常妈: Excellent! Look at the four squares in the corner.
小小常: 1 blue square, 1 orange square, 1 yellow square and 1 green square.
常妈: 很好！ 接下来呀轮到狮子上场了。 狮子一上场就开始咆哮 “Roar!!! Roar!!!” The lions start their roaring.
小小常: 那太吓人了妈妈。
常妈: 是的，they are not very tame. 它们可不是特别的温驯。Tame是驯服、温顺的意思t-a-me tame.
小小常: My cat is very tame.
常妈: True! 驯兽师一看狮子们不是很乖，赶紧带着它们退场了。 接下来就是…
小小常: Brown bears!
常妈: 嗯，bears 熊出场表演了。它们骑着双轮车bicycles. They ride the bicycles and form a rectangle. 还组了个大长方形呢。
小小常: 妈妈，a rectangle has 2 sides short and 2 sides long.
常妈: Correct! 你看这里四个长方形。
小小常: 1 blue rectangle, 1 green rectangle, 1 orange rectangle, 1 yellow rectangle.
常妈: Bingo! 然后呀， 几名杂技演员acrobats 出场了，acrobat, acrobat a-cro-bat acrobat 杂技演员。
他们在舞台的高空处各种旋转摆动， acrobats are twirling. Twirl 就是像杂技演员那样地旋转、转动。
小小常: 太精彩了！妈妈！
常妈: 是的， the acrobats are twirling to a special circus song. 他们随着一首很特别的杂技音乐表演着。 这时候的表演进入了高潮， 杂技帐篷中非常热闹，狮子、大象、白马、小丑、狗狗、杂技演员纷纷表演着， 而且马戏团里到处都是各种形状的马戏道具 circus shapes are everywhere. 杂技帐篷里灯火辉煌。The tent is all aglow. Aglow 的意思是通红的，发红的。过春节的时候，爸爸给你做的灯笼，当它被点亮的时候，就可以说it is aglow。
小小常：这个马戏团太好玩了， 后面还有什么表演吗？
常妈： 这时， 听到一声哨子响。 原来啊是指挥员吹了哨， the ringmaster blows his whistle. Whistle 是哨子， 你的抽屉里就有一个whistle。 我们外出的时候你总带着。 如果和爸爸妈妈走散了你就会blow your whistle. 吹着你的哨子，爸爸妈妈就可以顺着哨声找到你。 不过，这里指挥员吹哨子可不是在找谁。 他是告诉大家，演出结束了。 It’s time to end the show.
小小常： 好吧，it’s time to end the story. 也到了故事结束的时候了…… 哎……
常妈：好了，来和妈妈复习一下这几个形状吧：What shapes are they?
This is a circle.
The circle is round.
A circle has no end.
This is a triangle.
A triangle has three corners and three sides.
This is a square.
A square has four sides.
The four sides are all the same.
This is a rectangle.
A rectangle has 4 sides, 2 sides short and 2 sides long.
A rectangle has two short sides and two long sides.
