As someone who didn't start seriously following the NBA until 2011-2012, it always surprises me when I remember that the Mavericks had both Jason Kidd and Steve Nash at separate times and they weren't able pair either of them with Dirk for longer than a few years.

They are both amazing facilitators, they could both work with Dirk phenomenally. And Nash got good later in life while Dirk got his championship later, so Nash would be able to help that 2011 run as well as some runs in years similar

To be fair tho, Kidd is an interesting case because he became a great shooter later in his career, so he fit better into the system.

Prime Kidd took a Nets team that had no business being that good to the finals twice, put a prime Dirk on that team....They have a shot against the Lakers and could probably beat that Spurs team.

I'd agree in a vacuum but if you've got a strong defensive team around those two, I think Nash-Dirk combo on offense might suit a team better. The two of them throwing it back and forth and hitting threes would be more fun to watch, at least.
