最近，我的一個外國朋友計劃12月初要來中國旅行。我們已經有兩年多沒有見面了，他在郵件中說：
It would be wonderful to catch up again.
要是我們能見面聚聚那真是太好了。
朋友很久沒有聯繫了，想要見面聚一聚，敘敘舊，此時英文可以說catch up。哎？有同學要問了，我們在課本中學到的catch up的意思是“抓住，趕上”啊，catch up怎麼還有“敘舊”的意思。 今天我們來看一下在口語表達中，catch up如何才能表達“敘舊”的意思。
catch up可以單獨使用，比如說：
We need to catch up.
我們應該好好敘敘舊。
也可以接不同的介詞，比如catch up on something或catch up with someone。
1. It's been years since we were last together! You and I must really catch up with each other sometime soon.
我們好幾年都沒有見面了，你我一定得找時間聚聚。
這裡用的是介詞with接“人”each other：catch up with each other，就是說“彼此見面，敘敘舊”。
2. 如果要接“事物”，則用介詞on：
It's been years since we were last together! You and I must really catch up on each other's lives sometime soon.
我們好幾年都沒有見面了，你我一定得找時間聚聚。
大家看到了，同樣是“敘敘舊”，英文可以說catch up with each other或catch up on each other’s lives。不同的賓語，介詞不同。這就告訴我們，學英文、造英文句子，不能只看漢語，而是要看英文本身的邏輯關係。

What's up?是個常用的問候方式，年輕人之間相互問候，已經不用how are you了，而是這個 "Hey, what's up?"。
5. What's new with you?
最近怎麼樣？
這句話表面上理解就是問“你最近有沒發生什麼新鮮事啊”，但是用在敘舊、打招呼的時候，並不期待一個詳細的答案，更多地就是起到問候的功能。
6. Where have you been hiding yourself?
你最近都躲哪兒去了？
相信你也能看得出來，這是關係很好的朋友之間敘舊時才用的口語表達……
7. How have you been keeping up?
最近怎麼樣？
記住這個英語表達，至少混個眼熟，不然人家突然冒出個這句話，你都不知道人家到底想問什麼——其實人家不想問什麼，就只是問候一下你而已。
