I. Christmas Traditions
聖誕傳統
Mom: Christmas is coming.
媽媽：聖誕節快到了。
Shall we get ready for the holiday?
咱們準備過節吧？
Child: Mommy, what do we do for Christmas?
寶寶：媽媽，聖誕節咱們都幹什麼呀？
Mom: At Christmas, we spend time with friends and family and give and receive gifts.
媽媽：聖誕節的時候，咱們要和家人朋友在一起，互送禮物。
中文說“家人朋友”，但是英文的順序剛好相反，說friends and family。
II. Decorating the House
裝飾房間
We also like to put decorations up inside and outside the house.
咱們還會在屋裡屋外掛一些裝飾品。
Child: Decorations sound like fun.
寶寶：裝飾聽起來挺有意思的。
What do we need to do?
咱們需要做什麼呢？
Mom: First, we need to go get a Christmas tree.
媽媽：首先，咱們需要去買一棵聖誕樹。
雖然表達的是“買”的概念，但口語中一般用get，不用buy。
Let's go to the Christmas tree farm and cut one down.
咱們去聖誕樹農場砍一棵。
聖誕節，西方家庭有的用真樹，有的用假樹。
We'll take it home and put it in the living room, and then we'll decorate it.
咱們把它拿回家，放在客廳裡，然後裝飾它。
如果是用汽車運，不用carry，用take。
Child: Sounds great!
寶寶：太好了！
How do we decorate the tree?
咱們怎麼裝飾樹呢？
Mom: Next is the really fun part.
媽媽：下一步是真正有意思的。
We put all of the decorations on the tree and around the house.
我們在樹上和屋子裡掛上裝飾品。
On the tree, we put ornaments, lights, ribbons and tinsel with an angel sitting on the top.
咱們在樹上掛上小掛件、燈、鍛帶、拉花，最上面坐一個天使。
Decoration和ornament都是裝飾品，兩者有什麼區別呢？Decoration是裝飾品的總稱，ornament通常是掛件，且通常指聖誕的裝飾物，比如萬聖節的掛飾就叫Halloween decorations，情人節的掛飾叫Valentine's decorations。
聖誕樹頂端放星星或者天使都是很常見的。
Around the house, we put more ornaments and candles.
在房間裡再掛一些小掛件，放一些蠟燭。
We also hang up the Christmas cards we receive or place them around the house.
咱們還會把收到的聖誕賀卡掛起來或者擺在屋子裡。
Then we hang up lights outside and put a wreath on the door.
然後咱們把燈掛在外面，在門上掛一個花環。
Child: Can I help?
寶寶：我能幫忙嗎？
Mom: Yes, of course.
媽媽：當然可以。
It's so much fun.
可有意思了。
III. Baking Christmas Cookies
烤聖誕餅乾
Mom: You can also help me bake Christmas cookies and wrap presents to give to our friends and family.
媽媽：你還可以幫我烤聖誕餅乾，包裝禮物，把它們送給家人和朋友。
Gift和present有什麼區別呢？Gift比較正式，present一般是對孩子說。
We need to make the cookies look like reindeer and snowmen.
咱們要把餅乾做成馴鹿和雪人的樣子。
Child: Mmm. Can I try one?
寶寶：嗯。我能試試做一個嗎？
Mom: Yes, of course, but don't eat them all, as we need to share with your friends.
媽媽：當然可以了，但是別都吃了，因為咱們還得和朋友們分享呢。
IV. Presents from Santa
聖誕老人的禮物
Child: Mommy, are there any presents for me?
寶寶：媽媽，有我的禮物嗎？
Mom: Yes, of course.
媽媽：當然有。
If you have been a good girl, Santa Claus will be bringing your presents on Christmas Eve.
你要是乖的話，聖誕老人就會在聖誕夜給你送來禮物。
He flies around the world delivering presents to good little boys and girls with his sleigh pulled by 8 reindeer.
他會乘坐8只馴鹿拉的雪橇，在全世界飛來飛去給乖寶寶們送禮物。
如同deer-鹿的單複數是一樣的，reindeer的單複數也一樣。
But first you need to write a letter to Santa telling him what you would like for Christmas.
但是你得先給聖誕老人寫封信，告訴他你聖誕節想要什麼。
Child: I am so excited!
寶寶：太棒了。
I will write to him straight away!
我現在就給他寫。
Can I stay up on Christmas Eve to meet him?
我聖誕夜能熬夜等著他嗎？
Mom: No, you can't.
媽媽：不能的。
Santa only comes when children are sleeping, so you must go to bed.
聖誕老人只有在小朋友們睡覺的時候才來呢，所以你得上床睡覺。
But before we go to bed, we leave Santa and his reindeer a treat – a glass of milk and some cookies for Santa and a carrot for his reindeer.
但是上床之前，我們給聖誕老人和馴鹿留一些好吃的——一杯牛奶、一些餅乾，一個胡蘿蔔給馴鹿。
很多家庭還會給馴鹿留trail mix，或者叫reindeer food，就是一盤乾貨，包括nut-堅果、raisins-葡萄乾、dry cereal-乾糧、dried fruit-水果乾等。
When you wake up you will find your stocking filled with presents under the tree.
你醒來的時候，就會發現樹下的襪子裡裝滿了禮物了。
Then, we'll open them all up.
然後咱們就把它們都打開。
And then, we'll go to Grandma and Grandpa's house for our Christmas lunch.
然後咱們去爺爺奶奶家吃聖誕午餐。
It's the most wonderful time of the year!
這是一年中最開心的時刻！
