1941年，美国国会正式将每年11月第四个星期四定为“感恩节”。感恩节假期一般会从星期四持续到星期天。（当然，中国没有哈哈）也就是本月的22号，是传统意义上的感恩节降临的日子！
其实加拿大也有区别于米国的感恩节（没想到吧），1879 年加拿大议会宣称11月6日是感恩节和全国性的假日。在随后的年代，感恩节的日期改变了多次，直到在1957 年1月31日，加拿大议会宣布每年十月的第二个星期一为感恩节。由于黑色星期五和圣诞节的临近，让中国人比较亲切的也是美国的感恩节啦。
在风俗习惯上，美国和加拿大基本一致，吃烤火鸡、南瓜饼、红莓苔子果酱、甜山芋、玉蜀黍...感恩节也被戏称火鸡节，因为家家户户也会通过吃火鸡来度过这一年一度的庆典。
