首先來看這麼一段話，來自《銀河護衛隊》裡媽媽寫給星爵的信：
Peter, I know these last few months have been hard for you. But I’m going to a better place. And I will be okay. And I will always be with you. You are the light of my life. My precious son. My little Star-Lord.
Peter, 我知道最近幾個月對你來說很痛苦，但是我去了更好的地方，我會照顧好自己的。我會永遠陪在你身邊。你是我生命的曙光，我摯愛的兒子，我的小星爵。
這裡涉及了習語“the light of your life”，它的意思是“最愛的人”。追星少女最能理解這句話啦，“為什麼喜歡一個遙遠的人? 因為他會發光啊!”
好的，今天就來學習和light有關的實用表達。
1. cast/shed/throw light on sth 為…提供解釋;使…較容易理解
His diary cast light on life in England in the seventeenth century.
他的日記使人瞭解17世紀英格蘭的生活情況。
2. come to light(真相)為人所知，被披露
Fresh evidence has recently come to light that suggests that he didn't in fact commit the murder.
新近發現的證據表明那起兇殺案並不是他乾的。
3. go out like a light 立即入睡;馬上失去知覺
go out的意思有“出去;熄滅”，這裡就用燈光熄滅的速度來比喻立即入睡的狀態，很形象吧!下面分享的例句來自《駱駝祥子》：
When he lay down finally, he went out like a light the moment his head touched the d, and he felt it wouldn't be such a bad thing if he never woke again.

4. in the light of sth 因為，鑑於
In the light of recent incidents, we are asking our customers to take particular care of their personal belongings.

5. light at the end of the tunnel 隧道盡頭的亮光，曙光
這個習語常用來指局勢出現好轉或艱鉅任務即將完成的跡象，不知道大家有沒有看過《釜山行》。電影的最後倖存的兩個人要通過長長的隧道，最終她們靠著盡頭的亮光走完了隧道活了下去。
As finals approached, she felt that at last she could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
隨著考試的臨近，她覺得自己終於快要熬出頭了。
6. show someone in a bad light 醜化(某人)
in a bad light的意思是在看不清楚的地方;在光線不好的地方。
有沒有聽說過有一種神奇的光叫韓劇光，沒了打光畫面可沒那麼好看哦!
He was concerned that the article had shown him in a bad light.
他擔心那部影片醜化了他的形象。
以上的light都是名詞含義，再來看看它的形容詞和動詞用法。
light做形容詞，除了“光亮的，明亮的”的這個最常見意思，還有這幾個含義：
1. 輕鬆的，愉快的
make light of sth 輕視，忽視(尤指問題)

2. 弱小的;少量的
