Be an Honest Child
1.It is our choices that shape who we are
shape的主要意思是（形狀），但在這句話裡，shape是當動詞用，作（塑造，形成）講。這句話的意思是（我們的選擇會塑造我們。）也可說成：
What we choose is what determines who we are.
（我們的選擇會決定我們是怎樣的人。）
The choices we make affect who we are.
（我們所做的選擇會影響我們。）
What we decide shapes us into the people we are.
（我們做的決定會塑造我們。）
2.Even as children,we have many choices.
as的用法很多，需要根據前後文來判斷其詞性及意思，例如：
（1）as當副詞用，作（一樣地）講。在（as...as...）的句型中，第一個as是副詞。
He ran as fast as a rabbit.
（他跑的像兔子一樣快。）
（2）as當連詞用，作（像）講。在（as...as...）的句型中，第二個as是連詞。
He is as busy as a bee.
（他像蜜蜂一樣忙碌。）
as busy as a bee非常忙碌
（3）as當代詞用，作（與...相同的人、事、物）講。
I come from the same country as you do.
（我和你來自同一個國家。）
（4）as當介詞用，作（身為）講。
Evan as children,we have many choices.
（就算身為小孩，我們也有許多選擇。）
3.So,they deserve our honesty.
這句話的意思是（所以，他們值得我們誠實以對。）也可說成：
Therefore,we should be honest with them.
（因此，我們應該對他們誠實。）
Consequently,they have earned our honesty.
（因此，他們使我們願意誠實以對。）
As a result,they merit our being truthful with them.
（因此，他們值得我們誠實以對。）
as a result因此
deserve（應得；值得）的用法舉例如下：
You deserve to win first place.
（你獲得第一名是應該的。）
You deserve a break after all that hard work.
（在辛苦地工作之後，你應該休息一下。）
You deserve to win the game,because the other team cheated.
（你應該贏得這場比賽，因為另一隊作弊。）

4.It doesn’t matter what problems we have.
這句話的意思是（我們有什麼問題並不重要。）也可說成：It is not important what our problems are.（我們的問題是什麼並不重要。）
matter（有關係；重要）的用法舉例如下：
It doesn’t matter whether it rains or not.
（是否會下雨都沒關係。）
Does it matter to you what time I arrive?
（我什麼時候抵達，對你很重要嗎？）
When you apply to a college,your grades matter a lot.
（當你申請大學時，你的成績非常重要。）

5.There’s no running from the truth.
There is no V-ing不可能...
run from逃離；逃避
There is no V-ing是作（不可能...）講，等於It is impossible to V.這句話的意思是（要逃避事實是不可能的。）也可說成：
You cannot escape the truth.
（你無法逃避事實。）
There’s no hiding from the truth.
（要躲避事實是不可能的。）
hide from躲避
6.Being honest is a sign of good character.
這句話的意思是（誠實是品行良好的表示。）也可說成：
Honesty is an indication of a good character.
（誠實是品行良好的指標。）
If someone is honest,he probably has a good character.
（如果一個人誠實，他可能就有良好的品行。）
Truthfulness is a sign of a good nature.
（誠實是本性善良的表示。)
另外，character除了作（人格；品行）講外，還有其他意思，例如：
（1）作（人物；角色）講。
Tom Sawyer is the most important character in this book by Mark Twain.
（湯姆·索亞在馬克·吐溫的這本書中是最重要的角色。）
（2）作（特色）講。
The character of the town is very quiet and friendly.
（這座城鎮的特色是非常寧靜和友善。）
（3）作（有某種行為或個性的人）講。
Aunt Rose is a well-known character in her neighborhood.
（羅絲姑媽在她家附近一帶是一個很有名的人。）

7.little by little,our confidence will grow!
little by little逐漸地
這句話的意思是（我們的自信就會逐漸增加！）也可說成：
Gradually,we will become more confident.
（我們會逐漸變得更有自信。）
Step by step,we will feel more confident.
（我們會逐漸覺得更有自信。）
step by step一步一步地；逐步地
