This is the most common English mistake around the world.

If you're just learning to speak English, then it's okay to make this mistake.
如果您是在學習說英語 那麼可以犯這個錯誤
I'll forgive you.

But if you've been speaking English for 10 or 20 years,
但是 如果你已經有10年或20年說英語經驗
and you're making this mistake,
還犯這個錯誤的話
then that's a problem.
那就是你的問題了
And you look like an idiot speaking English.
說起英語來 就像個傻子似的
So the most common mistake people make is that they don't use articles.
所以 人們最常犯的錯誤就是不使用冠詞
They say things like, "I want to buy new car."
他們會說 I want to buy new car
That's wrong.
那是不對的
It's wrong because the word 'car' is a noun,
為什麼錯呢 因為car是一個可數名詞
and so we need the word "a" here.
所以 我們需要加上不定冠詞a
I want to buy a new car.
（這才是正確的說法）
So what is an article?
所以 什麼是冠詞呢
In English, we have three words that we call articles, "A, an, the."
在英語裡 有三個冠詞 a an the
These words always come before nouns.
這三個冠詞通常出現在名詞前面
So if you see one of these words, you know that a noun is coming.
所以 當你看到冠詞時 你就要知道後面會接一個名詞
It might come right after the article.
名詞通常都會出現在冠詞後
For example.
舉個例子
The dog is hungry.
這隻小狗餓了
The後面是dog
But you could also say, "The big brown dog is hungry."
你也可以說 那隻大棕色的狗餓了
So in that case, there are a few words between the article and the noun.
在這種情況下 會有一些詞在冠詞和名詞之間
The big brown dog, the word dog is a noun.
dog是個名詞
So, we need to use one of these words.
所以 在名詞前 我們得用這三個裡的其中一個冠詞來加以修飾
This seems quite easy.
這看起來似乎很簡單
There are only three articles in English.
在英語裡 只有三個冠詞
So why is this such a common mistake?
那又為什麼人那麼多人犯這個錯誤呢
It's such a common mistake because many languages around the world don't have articles.
之所以說是個常見的錯誤 是因為 世界上大多數語言是沒有冠詞的
Major languages, like Chinese or Hindi, they don't have articles.
一些主要的語言 像中國話 印度語 它們都是沒有冠詞的
That's why they make this mistake SO many times.
這也是為什麼 他們更經常犯錯的原因
Another mistake that people make is they use an article when they shouldn't use an article.
另外一個常犯的錯誤是 在不該使用冠詞的時候使用冠詞
So look at this sentence, "I can speak the English."
看下這個句子
I've heard this so many times!
我聽過太多人這樣說了
But it's wrong.
這種說法是錯的
We don't use the word "the", you can just say "I can speak English."
speak English中間不需要加the
But this is a noun, English is a noun, so we should use an article, right?
但是English是個名詞啊 不是說名詞前要加冠詞的嗎
Well, look at this sentence here.
我們來看另外個句子
Barnacles live in salt water and attach themselves to hard surfaces.
藤壺生長在鹹水中 並且附著在一些堅硬的表面
Okay, here we have three nouns but no articles!
在這裡 我們看到了有三個名詞 但是一個冠詞也沒有
Look, we have barnacles, water and surfaces.
這裡的三個名詞分別是barnacles/water/surfaces
But we don't have any articles!
沒有冠詞
Why not?
