讓她感到震驚和困惑的是廚房也有煙冒出。她搶前去查看究竟，只見三張小臉滿臉歉意，和一些烤得很焦的麵包。一個男孩解釋道，“對不起！我們餓了，但看到你睡著了，所以我們想自己烤麵包吃”。瑪麗鬆了口氣，給他們弄了點吃的，又打發他們回去睡覺了。同時也答應他們，永遠不會再在工作時間打瞌睡！
