Shenzhen Airlines is offering a one-way flight from Shenzhen to Chongqing, a 1,000 km journey, for 30 yuan, which is less than a Starbucks latte in China which costs 32 yuan.

The total number of passengers carried by Chinese airlines during Spring Festival has decreased 45 percent compared with the same period a year ago and less than half of all seats were filled on an average flight during the period, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The coronavirus outbreak is leading to sharp reductions in the demand for air travel with many major international airlines suspending flights to and from China.
