美疾控中心主任羅伯特·雷德菲爾德博士回應稱，目前確實有原本被診斷為患流感、實際卻是感染新冠病毒而死亡的情況。
這段對話被曝光後在互聯網上掀起了軒然大波，引發激烈討論。
3月12日晚，外交部發言人趙立堅在推特上用中英雙語連發5條推文就此事質詢美國，並表示：美國欠我們一個解釋！
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Thursday said it is the U.S. that lacks transparency in the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Robert Redfield, director for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), openly admitted on Wednesday that some COVID-19 deaths have been misdiagnosed as influenza in the country.
Earlier, the CDC reported that at least 34 million Americans have been infected with flu this season and an estimated 20,000 people have died from it.
Zhao posted several tweets, demanding a further explanation from the U.S.

在另一條推文中，趙立堅追問，“零號病人是什麼時候在美國出現的？有多少人被感染？醫院的名字是什麼？”，並懷疑“病毒是由美軍士兵帶到武漢的”。
"CDC was caught on the spot. When did patient zero begin in U.S.? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals?" he tweeted.
"It might be U.S. army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan," Zhao added, saying the U.S. should "be transparent" and "make public" all its data.

"U.S. owe us an explanation," he stressed.
同樣身為中國外交部發言人的華春瑩也在當天用英文發推表示：美疾控中心承認之前在美國診斷為流感的一些病例，事實上患的是新冠肺炎，
將這種病毒稱為“中國新冠病毒”是絕對錯誤和不恰當的。Spokesperson Hua Chunying also responded in her Twitter on Thursday, saying "It is absolutely WRONG and INAPPROPRIATE" to call COVID-19 a Chinese coronavirus since the U.S. has acknowledged that some flu patients may have been misdiagnosed and actually had COVID-19.

近日來，不少美國政客將矛頭指向中國，他們不斷提起“病毒起源”，試圖將疫情的暴發歸咎於中國。
對此，中國外交部發言人耿爽在週四的外交部記者會上告訴美方，華盛頓目前的重點應該是解決新冠疫情，而不是“推卸責任”給中國，抹黑中國為抗擊疫情做出的努力。
Recently, Washington has played the blame game by pointing fingers at China over the outbreak, as U.S. officials continue to remind people of COVID-19's origin. U.S. National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien went even further, saying that "the outbreak was covered up" and that "cost the world community two months."
Earlier on Thursday's daily press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang told the U.S. side that Washington's focus at this time should be on a solution to the COVID-19 outbreak, rather than "shifting responsibilities" to China and defaming China's efforts to fight the pneumonia-like disease.
