Don't like to stare at subtitles教你拋掉字幕觀看英文電影!

Let's talk about a problem you might have when listening to English, especially when watching a movie.

我們來談談你在聽英語時可能遇到的問題吧,尤其是在看電影的時候。

You don't understand what you hear.

你不明白聽到的內容。

And this is not because you don't know the vocabulary.

這不是因為你不懂詞彙。

If you read the transcript or the subtitles, you will understand the material just fine.

如果你看著文字記錄或者字幕的話,你就能很好的理解這個材料。

So you already know thewords being used。

所以你已經知道了這些所應用到的單詞。

You just don't recognize them when listening.

你只是聽辨它們。

So what should you do?

那你該怎麼辦?

According to many research studies an effective way to deal with this problem is to practice listening

through easy-to-hard training

根據許多研究,解決這個問題的有效方法.

In one study, participants were trained to perform a task related to hearing.

在一項研究中,參與者被訓練完成一項與聽力有關的任務

And there were three levels of difficulty:easy, normal, and difficult.

三個難度級別:簡單,正常和困難。

The participants were divided into two groups. The first group was trained to perform only the difficult

version of that task.

參與者被分成兩組,第一組只訓練困難版。

The second group, however, started with the easy and normalversions first before performing the difficult version.

而第二組,先訓練簡單版和普通版,再訓練困難版

The researchers wanted to know which group would perform the difficult version better.

研究人員希望知道哪個群體能夠更好地完成困難的版本。

So what was the result?

所以結果如何呢?

Well, despite having less training with the difficult version, the second group actually performed better.

那麼,儘管笫二次訓練困準版的的次數更少,但他們的表現卻更好。

Practically speaking, this finding suggests that if you have difficulty doing something,

實際上,這個研究表明了,當你在做某事有困難的時候

instead of just keep doing that,it's more effective to start with something easy.

與其一直迎難而上,還不如從簡單一點事情的入手,反而更有效

and then slowly increase the difficulty as you improve.

然後隨著你的進步慢慢增加難度。

So how can you apply this knowledge to improve your listening.

那麼如何運用這些知識來提高聽力呢?

I'll tell you. First you have to make it easy in the beginning.

我來告訴你,首先,你必須在剛入門的時候選擇比較簡單的素材。

For example, if you listen to podcastsin English on your smartphone,

例如,如果你在手機上聽英文播客的話,

find an app that lets you change playback speed, so that you can slow down or speed up what you're

listening to.

找一個能調整回放速度的應用程序,以便你能放慢或者加快聽力材料的速度。

If you listen on your computer, there are programs that can do that as well.

如果你是在電腦上聽的,同樣也有類似的程序可以做到類似的功能。

Then, whenever you have trouble understanding, use the app to slow down the audio like this.

然後,只要您無法理解,請使用該應用程序的功能來減慢音頻速度,如下所示。

So now it gets easier, right? You have more time to think.

所以現在是不是變得容易了呢?你有更多時間思考。

You have more time to make out words that aren't pronounced clearly.

你有更多的時間弄清楚發音不清晰的單詞,

You have more time to guess the meanings of new words and phrases.

你有更多的時間來猜測新單詞和新短語的意思。

The idea here is to make it easy in the beginning.

這個想法的要點就是在剛入門的時候儘量簡單。

Listen at slower speeds. Listen to speakers that are easy to understand.

聽慢速的材料,或者聽那些更容易懂的材料。

Listen to easy stuff like podcasts and interviews as opposed to movies. Start small.

聽一些簡單的內容,比如播客和訪談,而不是電影,先從簡單的做起。

But you're not done yet.Easy-to-hard training requires you to go from easy to difficult.

但這並不意味著你就完成了,由易入難的訓練要求你必須逐漸提升難度。

So once your listening skills improve, you have to gradually increase the difficulty.

所以一旦你的聽力技巧提高了,你就必須逐漸增加難度。

For example, if you're listening to a speaker that speaks slowly and you can understand everything,

例如,如果您所聆聽的是一個說話很慢演講者,並且他講的所有東西你都能聽懂的話。

instead of listening at the normal speed, speed it up , like this.

不要以正常的速度聽,而是要像這樣加快速度。

You think about... image you're going to a party.

你可以想象一下。想象一下你要去參加一個派對(1.0倍速)

OK,you go to a party, and you meet some people you never met before.

好吧,你去參加一個聚會,你遇到了一些你從沒見過的人。(1.0倍速)

And at that party, you get a certain feeling of each person you connecting with.

然後在這個派對上,你對每一個與你有聯繫的人都有一種明顯的感覺。

哦,對,喜歡和她聯繫,她…看起來(1.4倍速)。

Now,after you speed it up,you must still be able to understand the content.

那麼,在你加快速度之後,你必須仍能夠理解這些內容。

But you should feel a little uncomfortable.

但是你可能感覺有一點吃力。

This will help you become more familiar with listening to fast speakers.

這將有助於你能更加熟練的聆聽那些說話快的人。

The idea here is to keep pushing yourself.

這個方法的要點就是不斷給自己施壓。

If you keep listening to something easy, your listening skills will stop improving.

如果你一直聽簡單的素材,你的聽力技巧將停滯不前。

So you have to keep challenging yourself.

所以你必須持續挑戰自己。

So listen at faster speeds. Also, don't keep listening to the same person.

所以用更快的速度來聽,另外,不要總是聽同一個。

Listen to different people with different speaking styles.

聽不同說話方式的人說話。

And then...start watching movies without subtitles.

然後……嘗試開始看沒有字幕的電影。

If it's still difficult, you can slow down the movie by 5% or 10%,or you can slow it down even more, if

you don't mind the slowness.

如果還是很難,你可以把電影的速度放慢5%或10%,或者如果你不介意的話,你可以讓它更慢。

Once you get used to it,you can then start watch movies at normal speed.

只要你適應了,你就可以開始用正常的速度觀看電影了。
