《攀登者》用攀登故事展現中國精神。

We are all climbers

The movie The Climbers, starring Wu jing, Zhang Ziyi, Zhang yi, Jing Boran and Hu Ge tells the story of China’s first national mountaineering team to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma, known in the West as Mount Everest. It is based on the real events of Chinese climbers Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo and Qu Yinhua, who made a historic climb up Mount Everest’s North Ridge in 1960. They were the first Chinese team to successfully climb Mount Everest’s north side, which is well-known as the most challenging side of the mountain. The three left a small statue (雕像) of Chairman Mao after they reached the top, and then returned midway down the mountain to save a fourth member of their team who couldn’t complete the climb.

In an interview, Wu jing, the lead actor, said he suffered altitude sickness (高原反應) while filming the movie in Qinghai, but he stressed that it was important to experience it. “As an actor, at least I know what it felt like and what it took to climb in such a state. It was important to understand how difficult it was for those great mountaineers,” he said.

This movie is a good gift for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Since China’s reform and opening-up policy was carried out, everyone in the country is actually a “climber” and every “climber” is a dream chaser, which represents the “Chinese spirit”. This is a story that only China can tell.
