post是大家都非常熟悉的词语，但词根的来龙去脉都清楚吗？
Post comes from a Latin word meaning “after” or “behind”.
在拉丁语的词根中，原本意义是指“后来的”“后面的”。
我们日常生活中经常使用的一个缩写p.s，其实完整形式是postscript，直接理解“词”面意思是说稿子后面的部分，通常是在已完成信件后面额外添加的附注。
A postscript (ps) is a note that comes from an otherwise completed letter, usually as an afterthought.
理解了“后”的词根意思，排列组合的新词汇，也就非常易于理解了，比如partum指分娩，那么加上post变成postpartum则是指“产后”。
Postpartum refers to the period following childbirth, with any related events and complications.
需要注意的是postdate这个词，既可以指post的发布时间，也可以指推迟日期。
而posthumous则是指去世后的，比如遗作。
Posthumous: published after the death of the author; following or happening after one’s death.
事实上英文中这个词原本的意思是“遗腹子”，born after the death of the father; 此后这个词渐渐引申出更多意思，指死后才发表的作品，或者指生前默默无声此后才获得认可的艺术家（比如梵高）。
Though Van Gogh scarcely sold a single painting during his lifetime, he rose to posthumous fame as one of the word’s great artists.（尽管梵高生前几乎连一张画都卖不掉，他此后却成了最炙手可热的伟大艺术家之一。）
再接下来我们看看posterior这个词，很好理解当形容词用时指“在后面的、在后补的”，当名词用时指臀部、后部。
这个词在医学和生物学上尤其常见，比如posterior pituitary 指脑垂体后叶，posterior mediastiunum 指后纵膈腔。此外值得注意的是当posterior用在鱼类身上时，仅仅指尾部区域。
Posterior: situated toward or on the back; rear.
In a human posterior and dorsal can both refer to the back, but in a fish posterior refers to the tail area.
