一、地點狀語從句定義
顧名思義，地點狀語從句表示地點、 方位， 通常由where引導。
二、地點狀語從句引導詞
引導地點狀語從句的連詞有where(在..地方)，wherever(無論哪裡，在任何地方)，everywhere(每一...地方，到處)，anywhere(任何地方)，where總是放在主句後，絕不提前。
常用引導詞：where
特殊引導詞：wherever, anywhere, everywhere
三、地點狀語從句的用法
從屬連詞where“在(或到)……的地方”
例句：Where there is a will, there is a way. 有志者事竟成。
1、where 在地點狀語從句中，除指地點外，還可指處境等。
例句：He said he was happy where he was. 他說他對自己的處境很滿意。
2、有時地點狀語從句中的某些詞可以省略。
例句：Fill in the blanks with the given phrases. Change the form where necessary. 用所給的短語填空，必要的地方可以改變其形式。
3、地點狀語從句一般置於主句之後。
例句：Keep it where you can see it. 把它放在你看得見的地方。
注意：根據強調的需要，anywhere, everywhere和wherever也可以 (where則一般不可以) 放在句首。
4、where一般表示一個確定的但非特指的地點。
例句：The church was built where there had once been a Roman temple. 教堂建在曾一度是羅馬神廟的地方。
5、wherever, anywhere 和 everywhere 表示“任何地方”。
例句：No matter where you now are in writing, you can improve with practice. 不管你在寫作上你處於什麼水平，練習都能幫你提高。
四、where引導的定語從句與狀語從句：
where引導定語從句時，從句前應有一個表示地點的名詞作先行詞；而狀語從句前則無需先行詞。
例句：Go back where you came from.你從何處來到何處去。(where引導地點狀語從句)
Go back to the palce where you came from.回到你來的那個村子裡去。(where引導定語從句，修飾place)
where引導的定語從句和地點狀語從句的區別是什麼？
最簡單的辦法是看where是否有指代先行詞
應到定語從句還是狀語從句的區別主要可以從以下三點來看：
一、where引導定語從句時, where是關係副詞, 在從句中作地點狀語, 其前面有表示地點的先行詞, where引導的從句修飾先行詞。例如:
The bookshop where I bought this book is not far from here.
This is the house where I lived two years ago.
We will start at the point where we left off.
二、where引導狀語從句時, where是從屬連詞, where引導的從句修飾主句的謂語動詞, where前面沒有表示地點的先行詞。例如:
Wuhan lies where the Changjiang River and the Han Jiang River meet.
Make a mark where you have any doubts or questions.
I found my books where I had left them.
有時, where引導的地點狀語從句兼有抽象條件含義, 可放在主句的前面, 而where引導的定語從句則不能。例如:
Where there is a will, there is a way. 〔諺語〕有志者事竟成。
Where there is water, there is life. 有水的地方就有生命。
三、在有些情況下, where引導的定語從句可轉換為where引導的地點狀語從句。例如:
A tall building was put up at the place where there used to be a desert. （＝A tall building was put up where there used to be a desert. ）在以前曾是沙漠的地方蓋起了一幢高樓。
Bam boo grows best in places where it is warm and where it rains often. （＝Bamboo grows best where it is warm and where it rains often. ）溫暖而多雨的地方最適合於竹子生長。
