每節英語課前，
班長喊的那句“Stand up”嗎？
Stand作為動詞，是“站立，使站立，起立”的意思。
那麼，“I can't stand it”是什麼意思呢？
面對這個表達，很多人可能隨口會說：
“這還不簡單啊！
‘I can't stand it’的意思當然就是：
‘我沒法站著’、‘我站不住’的意思啦”...
但事實上，“I can't stand it” ≠ “我站不住了”
Stand除了有“站著，起立”的意思，
還有“忍受，抵抗”之意。
“I can't stand it”這個表達，
通常用於“否定句”中，
表示“我無法容忍”、“我受不了了”。
下面兩人的對話，就因為對“I can't stand it”的理解有偏差，導致溝通障礙，造成了不必要的尷尬。
A：I can't stand it! I am so tired today.
B：Oh! There is a bench. Sit down and take a rest. You will be better.
A：NO! I don't need a seat.
B：Then, why are you so tired？
A：No, I mean the working is so hard, I can't take it anymore.you're missing the point.
B：Sorry about that!

I can't stand people interrupting all the time.
我無法容忍老有人打岔。
I can't stand it when people throw litter in pubic.

I can't stand lying in this heat.

其實，“我受不了了”還有其他的表達方式。

I can't stand it. ＆ I can't bear it.
多數情況下可以通用，
但後者語氣稍強一些，也比較正式。
I can't bear it anymore!
我受不了了。
My God! I can't bear it.
我的天哪！這我真忍受不了。
Come on, Jack, hurry up, I can't bear it.
來吧，傑克，快點兒，受不了啦。
The boss is so ugly. I can't bear it.
卡爾：老闆太討厭了。我受不了了。

Tom: Jack, I can't take it anymore.
湯姆︰傑克，我再也受不了了。
I can't take it anymore. I've been working my ass off like this for ages.
老子再也受不了了。已經這樣沒命地工作了好久啦。
I've tried to be brave this entire summer…but seriously, I can't take it anymore.

我受不了她的聲音。

其實，在英語中，還有一些 I can't相關表達容易出錯的，如：
I can't tell ≠ 我不能說（×）
I can't tell ＝ 我說不準（√）
I can' help ≠ 我不能幫忙（×）
I can' help ＝ 我情不自禁（√）
I can't help myself ≠ 我幫不了我自己（×）
I can't help myself ＝ 情不自禁、不由自主、無法自拔（√） ＝ I can' help it.
