一、学前阅读，看您有哪些词汇语法障碍：
Why, you may wonder, should spiders be our friends? Because they destroy so many insects, and insects include some of the greatest enemies of the human race. Insects would make it impossible for us to live in the world; they would devour all our crops and kill our flocks and herds, if it were not for the protection we get from insect-eating animals.

二、学中理解，学习词汇语法知识点：
Why, {you may wonder}, should spiders be our friends? .
{你可能会觉得奇怪}， 蜘蛛怎么会是我们的朋友呢？。
1.{you may wonder}是插入语，可以改写为一个宾语从句：You may wonder why spiders should be our friends.
2. Because引导原因状语从句，Because可以省略，省略了Because就是隐性的因果关系。
3. and引导并列句，解释前一句insects的具体内容。
Insects would make it impossible {for us to live in the world}; they would devour all our crops | and kill our flocks and herds, .
，昆虫就会使我们无法在地球上生活下去，（因为）昆虫会吞食我们的全部庄稼，杀死我们的成群的牛羊。
4. 是表示与客观事实相反的虚拟语气，翻译时提到句首更符合汉语的习惯。
5.make it impossible是形式宾语结构，it是真实宾语，指代{for us to live in the world}，原来的句序是make {for us to live in the world} impossible。
6. 分号；也起连词的作用，相当于and，后面的and引导并列谓语。
7. [we get from insect-eating animals]是定语从句，修饰protection，从句本来是we get protection from insect-eating animals，用that/which指代做宾语的protection，可以省略。
