喬治·英尼斯 George Inness
1825-1894
英尼斯是美國19世紀後半期充滿浪漫主義詩意的現實主義風景畫家。
他出生於紐約州的一個小商人家庭，自幼喜愛繪畫，早期作品受赫德森河畫派的影響，曾幾度去意大利和法國學習，將法國巴比松畫派的影響帶到美國。
後形成自己獨特的風格，筆觸比較自由，色彩比較豐富。
作為瑞典科學家、神學家維斯登堡的信徒，喜歡探尋大自然的奧妙，通過各種光線效果表現自然，注重氣氛渲染。

晚年還嘗試用法國印象派畫法，具有一種更深暗更浪漫的特徵，其表現的激情有時達到過分的情感性的程度。
但這並沒有影響他對19世紀晚期形成的美國現實主義風景畫作出的貢獻。
英尼斯是這一時代最有才藝、最富生氣的風景畫家，是美國新風景畫派的先驅畫家。
