Speech of Yang Yanyan (Vice Secretary-Genera) at the Press Conference for the 15th CAEXPO Special Partner Country

Friends from the press, ladies and gentlemen,
Good afternoon.
The 15th China-ASEAN Expo(CAEXPO) will soon be convened in Nanning, Guangxi on September 12th-15th. Tanzania will participate in the 15th CAEXPO as the Special Partner Country. H.E. Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, the Second Vice President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar of the United Republic of Tanzania will head a delegation consisting of government officials, businesspeople and art performers to join this event. It is for the very first time that an African country joins the CAEXPO as the Special Partner Country, which is situated on the extension part of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Tanzania's participation in the CAEXPO as the Special Partner Country is of great significance for jointly building the China-Africa Community of a Shared Future, for promoting the cooperation among the countries along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and for building the Belt and Road routes.
China and Tanzania enjoys traditional friendship and deep cooperation foundation. In 2013, President Xi Jinping chose Tanzania as his first stop during his visit to Africa, after he took the office. Leaders of China and Tanzania have lifted the bilateral relations into the comprehensive and cooperative partnership featuring mutual benefits and win-win outcomes. President John Magufuli emphasized many times the deep friendship and bond between the peoples of Tanzania and China. Thanks to the encouragement and full support of the governments of the two countries, the China-Tanzania cooperation in economy, trade, energy, production capacity and other fields has gained sustainable development. In 2017, the bilateral trade reached USD 3.452 billion. China has become Tanzania's largest trade partner, project contractor and a major source of FDI. Outcomes of the bilateral cooperation can be seen in various sectors of the economic development and all aspects of people's livelihood of Tanzania.
I. The CAEXPO Special Partner Country mechanism has played an important role in advancing the Belt and Road Initiative, and will serve as another effective platform for promoting the China-Tanzania cooperation.
The CAEXPO is an international event co-sponsored by China and the 10 ASEAN member states as well as the ASEAN Secretariat. Based on the China-ASEAN cooperation, the CAEXPO is also open to the world, to integrate into the global value chain. Each of the previous CAEXPO attracted a large number of enterprises from outside the China-ASEAN region, building an important bridge for China and ASEAN to cooperate with the other economies.
As the Chinese and ASEAN participants of the CAEXPO show increasingly stronger desire for economic and trade cooperation with their counterparts from other economies, the CAEXPO launched the Special Partner Country mechanism in 2014. Australia, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan was the previous CAEXPO Special Partner Country respectively. Based on the China-ASEAN cooperation, the CAEXPO has expanded the cooperation region to the countries along the Belt and Road, helping connect the countries along the Belt and those along the Road.
This year, we are honored to have Tanzania, a country situated on the extension part of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, as the Special Partner Country for the 15th CAEXPO. Actually, it is the first time for the CAEXPO to invite an African country to join as the Special Partner Country. It is a breakthrough achieved by the CAEXPO in expanding its cooperation region along the Belt and Road.
Participating in the CAEXPO as the Special Partner Country on one hand, will help dock Tanzania's Second Five Year Development Plan with the BRI, and on the other hand, will help Tanzania promote her exchanges and cooperation with China and ASEAN, thus to achieve common development.
1. Showcase country image and international influence of Tanzania. The CAEXPO is a trade event with special international influence. It attracts the attendance of state leaders and business tycoons every year. The 4-day event can see 160,000 visitors and over 2000 journalists and reporters from 100+ media worldwide. The Second Vice President Iddi will address the opening ceremony of the 15th CAEXPO, along with state leaders of China and the ASEAN countries. The opening ceremony of Tanzania Pavilion, exhibition on Tanzanian products and Tanzania investment promotion seminar will attract the eyeballs of the business professionals and media from different countries, helping Tanzania promote her country image and expand her influence in China, ASEAN and other economies.
2. Deepen Tanzania's economic and trade cooperation with China and ASEAN. The CAEXPO is cored on the China-ASEAN FTA that covers one third of the world population, which means a huge market and numerous business opportunities. Tanzania, rich in natural and human resources, enjoys strong economic complementary to China and ASEAN. As we know, Tanzania is now promoting infrastructure construction, expanding international economic and trade cooperation, pushing forward industrialization and urbanization, boost agriculture and tourism. In this connection, the forthcoming CAEXPO will arrange a series exhibitions, forums and exchange activities on these fields, for Tanzania to promote her investment climate, tourism resources and projects calling for investment, to showcase distinctive products and seek for partners. We hope, via the CAEXPO, Tanzania businesses will carry out mutually beneficial cooperation with their counterparts in China and ASEAN, to explore each other's market and achieve all-win results.
II. The 15th CAEXPO will provide Tanzanian delegation with considerate services.
1. Provide protocol treatment for Tanzanian VIPs.
2. Provide a compliment net space of 180 sqm at the eye-catching spot of the Belt and Road & International Pavilion for Tanzania to showcase her country image.
3. Provide 20 booths for Tanzania to showcase distinctive products, assist in arranging the Tanzania investment promotion seminar, and offer trade/project matching services for Tanzanian businesses.
4. Arrange promotion campaigns tailored for Tanzania. We will highlight Tanzania as the Special Partner Country of the 15th CAEXPO along the main avenues and streets in the host city of Nanning and around the Nanning International Convention & Exhibition Center. We will make full use of our media resources at home and abroad to promote the activities of Tanzania. We will also organize Chinese mainstream media to make a joint interview with Vice President Iddi.
