中国在世界上的存在感和中国的实力已经不匹配，所以推广中国文化有必要。
中国文化不缺乏软实力。我们几千年的文化，古圣先贤那么多著作，的确是因为没有好的翻译才不能大行于世。
至于怎么传播，我觉得只要我们的道理先进，深刻，信达即可，如果太雅，则可能不为大众所欣赏。
前几天，美国的第一女儿伊万卡发的微博就是信达而不雅的一例：
Those who say it can not be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
原意是：那些说这事干不成的人，不应该打搅那些埋头做事的人。
虽然一时找不出究竟这是哪句谚语， 这的确是中国文化里的东西。智叟说愚公不该移山，不就是这道理么。
由于伊万卡的推送，这句中国谚语赢得了很高的关注度。
所以我觉得，首先能推广的是谚语，而不是诗词。
比如《菜根谭》，里面的处事道理如果以信达而不雅的方式翻译出来，很容易被老外接受甚至引用的。我试着翻译几条：
邀千百人之欢，不如释一人之怨；希千百事之荣，不如免一事之丑。
It is better to forgive a person than please thousands of peole; and it is better to avoid a scandal than aspire to do many glorious deeds.
舌存常见齿亡，刚强终不胜柔弱
The fact that a man often lost his teeth rather than tongue means being gentle is better than being hard.
诗词有只有本民族才能欣赏的美感，这种美感，只有本民族文化氛围内的人才能欣赏，无论翻译的多好，外族人难以感知。
比如《红楼梦》中的
满纸荒唐言，一把辛酸泪。都云作者痴，谁解其中味?
杨宪益和戴乃迭版的翻译是：
Pages full of fantastic talk,
Penned with bitter tears;
All man call the author mad,
Nope his message hears.
稍微懂英语的都能看出英文译文和汉语原文的差距太远了。
最起码荒唐和fantastic不对等。
但是杨宪益和戴乃迭伉俪已经是最好的翻译家了，戴乃迭本身还是英国人。尽管如此，他们的翻译并不能表达原文美感之万一。
所以，可以这么说，英语世界里可能还没有能翻译好中国诗词的译者。
英语学人
中国古诗词的翻译是最难的，要达到信达雅就更不容易了。除了“信”(忠实原文以外)，还要尽力表达诗词的格律与韵味。
下面介绍一篇宋词的汉译英：
苏轼·《江城子》
Riverside Town (曲牌名只好直译：江城子)
A Dream of the Night of the 20th Day of the 1st Moon 1075 乙卯正月二十夜记梦 (乙卯是哪一年，西方读者显然不知道，所以要换算成公元纪年)
For the long years the living of the dead knows nought, 十年生死两茫茫；生死翻译成the living of the dead，上佳。
Though to my mind not brought,
Could the dead be forgot?
不思量。自难忘。(注意押韵：brought，forgot)
Her lonely grave is far, a thousand miles away.
To whom can I my grief convey?
千里孤坟，无处话凄凉。(译文押韵away，convey)
Revived even if she be, could she still know me?
My face is worn with care, And frosted is my hair.
纵使相逢应不识，尘满面，鬓如霜。 (译文用了虚拟语气；be 和me押韵；care 和hair押韵)
Last night I dreamed of coming to my native
place;
She was making up her face
Before her mirror with grace.
夜来幽梦忽还乡。小轩窗，正梳妆。(小轩窗没有翻译出来；但加上了“镜子“mirror，对镜整容麽；place，face，grace押韵)
Each saw the other hushed,
But from our eyes tears gushed.
相顾无言，惟有泪千行。(hushed，gushed两词古香古色，押韵)
Can I not be heart-broken when I am awoken
From her grave clad with pines,
Where only the moon shines!
料得年年肠断处：明月夜，短松冈。 (heart broken，awoken押韵，pine 和shine押韵)
