Democracy has nothing to do with development, if not nothing, it is a factor towards development but not the only factor. China and Russia(was) are communist. But they are developed. Development depends on how fast you adjust to changing demographics and technologies. Moving ahead at right time and investing at right resources lead to development. For Example, Middle East used their oil money to invest in tourism and airports. Their airlines are ranked in top 10 all the time. India missed this opportunity.
民主跟发展没有关系，只是发展的一个因素，并非是唯一因素。
中国和俄罗斯是共产国家，但是两国是发达的。
发展取决于你对人口结构变化适应的快慢，取决于你的技术。
恰当的时机，做出正确的投资，就能带来发展。

But Democracy means freedom. Freedom is one thing which we in abundance. This is not possible in China. You can not protest, you can not talk bad about the government.

The biggest bad thing in India is Castes and Religions. This is definitely stopping development in India. In China 80% of them do not have any religion and for that matter 100% of them do not follow any religion.

I have been twice to China. That too to 4th largest city of China – Guangzhou. I can say with my hand on my heart. It will take more than 20 years for current Mumbai to become current Guangzhou. Photos for your reference.

I guess your teacher is giving you wrong facts. I don’t think India is better than China in any major field let alone many of them.
你的老师搞错了。不觉得印度在哪个领域比中国更好，何况他说的是许多领域超过中国。
India is a fast developing country and have made strides in many fields recently but we are still far behind China. The fact that China is ahead of us and is much more advanced than India right now is a simple fact anybody can see just by looking the difference is quality of life between these two countries.
印度是一个快速发展的国家，在许多领域取得了飞跃，不过我们印度仍然远远落后中国啊。
事实上，中国领先我们，比印度先进多了，这是大家都明白的事实，看看两国人民的生活水平差异就知道了。
Its possible that we might be able to catch up with China some time in the future but it would take like another 10–15 more years for India to at least reach the place where China is right now. I can understand the sentiment that people wanna show that India is better than one of it major rival China but as of now there is a huge difference between China and India in many crucial fields and its a fact.
