Travellers at Indian airports can expect a frostier reception in future after police were ordered to smile less as a deterrent against terrorists.

Concerned that excessive friendliness was inviting an atrocity on Indian soil, officials in charge of air safety instructed officers to switch from a “broad smile system” to a “sufficient smile system”. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which secures about 60 of India’s 100 airports, is concerned that the police should be “more vigilant than friendly”.
