2. 不只是，不僅僅是（通常後接名詞、動詞、從句等）
He is more than a father to her. 他待她勝過父親。
He more than smiled， but laughed. 他不只是微笑，而是放聲大笑。
The result was much more than I imagined. 結果遠遠超出我的想象。
3. 極其，非常（通常後接形容詞、副詞或分詞等）
I was more than pleased with the pay rise. 薪水漲了，我高興極了。
He was more than upset by the accident. 他對這次事故感到非常難過。
4. 難以，完全不能（其後通常連用情態動詞 can）
That is more than I can tell. 那事我實在不明白。
The heat there was more than he could stand. 那兒的炎熱程度是他所不能忍受的。
