called过去分词做定语“被称作”，has been invented被动语态在现在完成时中的使用，it has been used to被动语态在现在完成时中的使用，gold which has been buried in the ground.定语从句，先行词在从句中做主语，从句又是个被动语态在现在完成时中的应用。
The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where -- it is said -- pirates used to hide gold.
was used被用来。it is said（据说）插入语。where关系副词引导的定语从句，在从句中做地点状语，从句是完整的句子。pirates used to hide gold海盗们过去藏金子的地方，过去常常做某事句型，这句型强调现在已经不那样了。
The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it.
海盗们过去常把金子藏在那个洞里，然后就没有去取（没说现在怎么样）。
Armed with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure.
Armed with the new machine,过去分词短语做伴随状语，表示“带着”、“装着”、“穿着”等，hoping to find现在分词做目的状语，带着寻找被埋财宝的希望。
再看一个新三的句子
Armed with a torch, the vicar went up into the clock tower to see what was going on.
简直就是一模一样的句子，希望你能去使用
The leader of the party was examining the soil near the entrance to the cave when the machine showed that there was gold under the ground.
队伍的领导正在检查洞口的土壤时，the entrance to the cave洞的口，介词用了to，机器显示土下边有金子
