木造像形成一定風格體系且現今能看到的最早在宋代，宋代官方木造像多有記載入冊，且保存下來的屈指可數。宋代受佛教世俗化的影響，富於現實意味和個性特點，尤其在臉相的塑造。菩薩面形圓潤，寬額豐頤，眼泡鼓起，從額頭到鼻樑一般凹陷下去，呈一條明顯的圓弧線，與當時現實中人物面相十分接近。
In the Song Dynasty, the official wood images of the Song Dynasty were mostly recorded, and few of them were preserved.
