我们经常需要给客户或者团队建议某件事怎么做会比较好，总离不开的一个词是suggest。
有小伙伴说每天suggest来suggest去，有没有什么别的词可以换换。
很多人马上想到了propose，这是一个不错的选择。
不过要注意一点，propose是「提议」，比 suggest要正式一些。很多人虽然也知道这是一个更正式的词，但具体怎么表现为「正式」，却不知道。下面我们简单说说。
当我们说suggest的时候，或许只是一个初步的想法，具体怎么做还没来得及想。
而当我们说propose的时候，一般是有明确清晰的方案。当你已经想好一二三怎么做，这时你就可以说 I would like to propose…/My proposal is …
还有一个词是recommend，这时我们今天要重点讲的。
recommend是「推荐」没错，但是我们中文里并不习惯说 「我的推荐是…」，但老外却很喜欢说My recommendation is …
有一次在电话会议，我问老外What's your suggestion?
我已经在脑补他下一句会说 My suggestion is …了，结果他冷不防来了一句：
My recommendation is …
邮件里也常用 Below is my recommendation for ...
日常对话中，还会听到老外bla bla bla说完一大通，然后以This is my recommendation.
在字典里 recommendation除了「推荐」外，确实就有suggestion 的意思：
an official suggestion about the best thing to do 正式建议；提议牛津词典
例：
- The committee made recommendations to the board on teachers' pay and conditions. 委员会就教师的工资和工作条件问题向董事会提出建议。
- I had the operation on the recommendation of my doctor. 我根据医生的建议做了手术。
动词recommend也有同样的意思，搭配用法和suggest一样：
- recommend doing sth
- recommend that sb(should) do sth
当然也可以recommend sb to do sth。
例：
1）The report recommended a 10% cost reduction. 报告提议成本降低10%。
2）I recommend (that) he see a doctor. 我建议他去看医生。
3）It is strongly recommended that the machines should be checked every year. 建议每年一定把机器检修一次。
4）I recommend you to book shipping space earlier 我建议你早预定舱位。
商品标签上的「建议零售价」，以下两种说法都可以
1）suggested retail price
2）recommended retail price
我们来看看老外的原生例句：
- Below are my recommendations for the improvement.
- So my recommendation is stop talking and start doing it.
- And that is my recommendation today: take it SLOW.
- You can grab the early beta here but I recommend waiting for the official version to arrive this week.
- I recommend making an appointment before you call.
