celeb 名人
celeb 是英文 celebrity（名人）的简称，在英式英文中则常简称为 sleb。例如：
A number of celebs attended the charity event last weekend.
上周末有不少名人出席那场慈善活动。
somebody 大人物
somebody 除了有「某人」的意思之外，也可以用来表示「大人物」，它在英英字典的解释是 a person of position or importance（有地位或重要性的人物）。例如：
I’m gonna make it to Hollywood and become a somebody one day.
有一天我会进到好莱坞，成为一个大人物。
至于「小人物、无名小卒」，英文则可以说 nobody，在英英字典的解释是 a person of no influence or consequence（没有影响力的人）。同样来看个例子：
The young writer went from nobody to somebody in the blink of an eye.
那位年轻作家眨眼间就从无名小卒晋升为大人物。
big name 名人、大人物
name 除了「名字」，也有「名人、声誉好的人」的意思喔，因此 big name 就是用来指「某领域的名人（特别是演员、音乐家...等）」。例如：
The humble guy over there is actually a big name in the music industry; he’s the writer of many hit songs.
那边那个谦虚的人其实是音乐界响当当的大人物；很多畅销歌曲都是他写的。
household name 家喻户晓的人物
Household 是「家庭」的意思，家家户户都知道的名字，自然就是指「家喻户晓的人物」啰！例如：
The director becomes a household name after winning an Oscar for Best Picture.
那位导演赢得一座奥斯卡最佳影片奖之后，成为了家喻户晓的人物。
become famous overnight 一夜成名
Overnight 是「一夜之间」的意思，所以 become famous overnight 自然就是指「一夜成名」啰！例如：
Stop chasing rainbows. Only few people are lucky enough to become famous overnight.
别做白日梦了。只有少数几个人有运气一夜成名。
fifteen minutes of fame 昙花一现、短暂即逝的名气
这个词组出自美国艺术家 Andy Warhol 在 1960 年代提到的一段话：In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.（未来，每个人都能红遍世界十五分钟。）
他的话在电视和社群媒体日益普及之后，似乎也预言成真了，人们也开始用 fifteen minutes of fame 来表示「在媒体上出现的短暂的、昙花一现的名气」。例如：
Alice had her fifteen minutes of fame when her video was featured on YouTube's "Trending" section.
Alice在她的影片登上 YouTube 的「热门影片」时短暂爆红。
someone’s name in lights 某人成名、出名
原先是用来指某个演员或表演者的名字出现在电影院或剧院外的广告牌上，后来延伸出「某人（特别是表演者）成为知名人物」的含意。例如：
Emily’s living in the hope that she could see her name in lights one day.
Emily 盼望着有天自己能成为一位知名表演者。
someone’s name is mud 某人声名狼藉、名誉扫地
有些人认为这个词组跟林肯总统的刺杀案有关，当时一位叫做 Samuel Mudd 的医生因为治疗刺杀案的凶手而名誉扫地，但这个词组其实至少可以追溯到 1800 年代，那时 mud 有「白痴、蠢人」的含意，所以如果说 someone’s name is mud，就是要表示「某人声名狼藉、名誉扫地」喔！例如：
The singer’s name is mud after being caught for illegal drug use.
那位歌手因为非法吸毒被逮而名誉扫地。
blacken someone’s name / reputation 败坏某人的名声
其中，blacken 是动词「使变成黑色、败坏」的意思，name 和reputation 则是指「名声、声誉」。例如：
The politician claimed that the recent incident was just hisopponents trying to blacken his name.
那名政客声称近期的事件只是他的对手在试图抹黑他。
