God's Wife 上帝的妻子
New York City, it's a cold day in December (十二月).
纽约城，这是12月份寒冷的一天。
A little boy about 10-year-old was standing in front of a shoe store (商店) on Broadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.
一个10多岁的小男孩赤脚伫立在百老汇的一家鞋店前，透过橱窗朝里面凝望着，在寒冷中，他禁不住瑟瑟发抖。
A lady approached the boy and said: "My little fellow (家伙), why are you looking so earnestly in that window?"
一位女士走近男孩说道：“我的小朋友，为什么你那么认真地盯着那橱窗看呢？”
"I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes." The boy replied.
“我在请求上帝给我一双鞋子。”男孩回答。
The lady took him by the hand and went into the store, and asked the clerk to get a half dozen pairs of socks (袜子) for the boy.
女士牵着他的手走进了商店，让店员去取半打棉袜。
Then, she asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel (毛巾). The clerk quickly brought them to her.
然后她问店员能否给她打一盆水和一块毛巾。店员很快就拿来给她了。
She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removed her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.
她把小家伙带到商店的后面，脱下她的手套，蹲下来给他洗了那双小脚，然后用毛巾擦干。
By this time the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she then purchased him a pair of shoes, and tying up the remaining pairs of socks, gave them to the boy.
这时，店员拿着袜子过来了。她把一双穿到了男孩的脚上，然后又为他买了一双鞋子，并捆好剩余的袜子，把它们都递给了男孩。
She patted him on the head and said: "No doubt, my dear little fellow, you feel more comfortable now?"
女士拍着他的头说：“毫无疑问，我亲爱的小朋友，你现在一定觉得舒服多了吧？”
As she turned to go, the astonished lad caught her by the hand, and looking up in her face, with tears in his eyes, answered the question with these words: "Are you God's wife?"
当她转身刚要离开时，这个一脸惊讶的小家伙抓住她的手，仰起脸来盯着她，他的眼中噙满了泪水。问道：“你是上帝的妻子吗？”
