God's Wife 上帝的妻子
New York City, it's a cold day in December (十二月).
紐約城，這是12月份寒冷的一天。
A little boy about 10-year-old was standing in front of a shoe store (商店) on Broadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.
一個10多歲的小男孩赤腳佇立在百老匯的一家鞋店前，透過櫥窗朝裡面凝望著，在寒冷中，他禁不住瑟瑟發抖。
A lady approached the boy and said: "My little fellow (傢伙), why are you looking so earnestly in that window?"
一位女士走近男孩說道：“我的小朋友，為什麼你那麼認真地盯著那櫥窗看呢？”
"I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes." The boy replied.
“我在請求上帝給我一雙鞋子。”男孩回答。
The lady took him by the hand and went into the store, and asked the clerk to get a half dozen pairs of socks (襪子) for the boy.
女士牽著他的手走進了商店，讓店員去取半打棉襪。
Then, she asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel (毛巾). The clerk quickly brought them to her.
然後她問店員能否給她打一盆水和一塊毛巾。店員很快就拿來給她了。
She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removed her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.
她把小傢伙帶到商店的後面，脫下她的手套，蹲下來給他洗了那雙小腳，然後用毛巾擦乾。
By this time the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she then purchased him a pair of shoes, and tying up the remaining pairs of socks, gave them to the boy.
這時，店員拿著襪子過來了。她把一雙穿到了男孩的腳上，然後又為他買了一雙鞋子，並捆好剩餘的襪子，把它們都遞給了男孩。
She patted him on the head and said: "No doubt, my dear little fellow, you feel more comfortable now?"
女士拍著他的頭說：“毫無疑問，我親愛的小朋友，你現在一定覺得舒服多了吧？”
As she turned to go, the astonished lad caught her by the hand, and looking up in her face, with tears in his eyes, answered the question with these words: "Are you God's wife?"
當她轉身剛要離開時，這個一臉驚訝的小傢伙抓住她的手，仰起臉來盯著她，他的眼中噙滿了淚水。問道：“你是上帝的妻子嗎？”
